Lots of expectations, and...

Was using Eagle for ten or more years. Don't know why, but with every major update of Eagle, like an idiot I'm expecting something... Well, this time I was really surprised, just not in good way. Yes I'm talking about licensing system and a cost, personally price is not a problem for me, it just not worth feature wise.

Problem with eagle is that it stuck in age, when for most projects, only  simple 2 or 4 layer PCB was available. Time goes on, multilayer PCBs with blind and buried vias almost became as a standard option, just not in eagle.

I have written this already, but... How difficult is to implement different length vias as different layers? So it would be possible to change color or turn on/off them between different layers? And this is only one of many missing features in multilayer PCB editor.

To be honest I can remember only 2 major really useful feature updates over these years. First one, multiple pads connection to the same pin in library editor. Second one, odd shapes polygon pad creation in library editor. Even it is really useful feature, but like most of them in eagle is not done properly. Why I have to create stop and paste mask manually for polygon pads?

Please hire at least few hardware engineers to help improve UI. Not only "implement" more or less useless features. Ant for me it is atime to switch to altium, even if I'm really lazy to learn new UI after more then a decade with eagle 😉

Hi DDD12345DDD,

Your participation on to the forum is greatly appreciated.

Edwin - In the current version of EAGLE it is possible to display via length, makes it very simple to view the depth of the transition.

Edwin - These are functions that we are confident will be addressed with the expanded development team and the community input.

We are saddened to learn you will consider other PCB options, please consider downloading the latest free version and let us know what you think.

Well that is not true, Ed. I just tested it and you can of course click at a via and look at the transition, but if you have a whole PCB with 100 blind vias and 150 normal vias, you can not make the 100 blind vias invisible, like you would turn off a layer, which is what DDD12345DDD meant.

And i have to agree, this is one of the features, that is really missing.

Hi juergenGW382,

If you are using V7.7 go to Options > Set > Misc Tab. You'll find a check box that says Display Via lengths. Make sure it's checked and click OK.

You should now be able to see the via depths on each of your vias.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi Jorge,

yes i know, but what DDD12345DDD originally meant is: Lets say i have a set of vias, that go from layer 1 to 2 and a set of vias that go from layer 1-16. Now the complete board is sprinkled with vias from both types.

You now just want to see all the vias, that are going from layer 1 to 2, but you cant, because eagle has just one layer that is called "Vias" and it will always show all the vias.

Instead you could have Layer "Vias 1-2" and "Vias 1-16", which could be dependent/existing on your defined layer structure. You could set colors or make it visible/invisible etc.

Do you see what i/DDD12345DDD mean?

BR

Hi juergenGW382,

I understand exactly what you mean.  I will inform and submit a request for developing team, if they have enough request from the community, I am certain they will add it to the road-map.  Thanks again for the idea and participating on the forums.

Best Regards,

Ed
