IPC 7351 Compliant Design Rules for Eagle

Hello all,

I am building a PCB that needs its footprints to be compliant to IPC 7351.

Instead of implementing this standard manually, is there any set of IPC 7351 design rules that I can import and apply to my Eagle project?

Also, is there a possibility of adding custom Design rules?

Hello @fahad.bhatti,

I hope you're doing well, this has already been addressed inside of Fusion Electronics. Check out the package generator inside of the library editor in Fusion, it is by design compliant with IPC-7351 it will generate compliant footprints and 3D models.

You can add custom design rules in both Fusion and EAGLE.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hello Jorge,

I will look into the package generator built into Autodesks Fusion software.

You said:

In a lot of the cases with PCB design, I end up downloading footprints from online repositories, check them, modify them and add them to my design. I rarely create them myself.

1. How do I ensure that footprints that already exist in my footprint library (.lbr) are IPC-7351 compliant?

2. Do the default Eagle DRC checks ensure that the footprints are complaint to IPC-7351.

I am transitioning from another CAD tool so I appreciate the guidance. This project I am working on had the schematic and footprints already created by another developer. I do not possess extensive expertise in Eagle!

Thanks!

Hello @fahad.bhatti,

I hope you're doing well. The DRC is meant to be set to manufacturer's specification, we don't currently have Rules setup specifically to check footprint against IPC-7351 yet. So with that said, unless they were generated with the Package generator there isn't a check now to confirm it.

I'll pass this request up the chain.
