Tried to install Eagle 8.1.0 on my virtual Windows 7 machine. At the end of the installation, the installation of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable hangs forever. What to do?

I had the same issue when I updated to 8, also on Windows 7.
I downloaded the C++ redistributable directly from Microsoft, but hadd missing dll error messages.
The solution on this page is what eventually got it working for me, but had to change the sequence after package cache/ to reflect the path on my machine. Hopefully it works for you too.
