HPGL missing in 8.6?

I can't find any CAM options for HPGL in 8.6. Is it missing? The CAM manager is totally different - no "device" menu - but even under "legacy" stuff, there is no "hpgl.cam" or anything.

Any idea how to do HPGL output?

I think you might have to use a CAM job created in a pre-8.6.0 EAGLE which is configured to output the HPGL format files and then use this "Legacy" CAM job in 8.6.0 to generate the required outputs.

Hi @bkgoodman,

I hope you're doing well. Rachael is correct, right now that's the solution we have but we will be providing an alternative to HPGL shortly. If I may ask what do you use the HPGL output for? Maybe I can suggest an existing alternative?

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

I want to generate cut-paths for traces. i.e. I don't want to export a
"trace" - I need to export the path around the trace. I know there are ways
to do take existing output and post-process it in other programs (it's what
I do now - output to pdf, import to Inkscape, convert traces w/ widths into
enclosed polygons, then union the polygons). But it's a lot of manual work
and I'm not finding a lot of good solutions.

Thanks!

Hello @bkgoodman,

I hope you're doing well, it sounds like you are milling your PCBs. If that's the case, there are a few ULPs you may want to try. Check out the mill-outlines.ulp that comes with EAGLE, according to the description it can export in HPGL.

You may also want to check out the gcode ULPs we have here:
http://eagle.autodesk.com/eagle/ulp?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q%5Btitle_or_author_or_description_cont%5D=gcode&...

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi bkgoodman:

The script state that it found things outside the board dimension. Things could be: text, logo or parts.

It is also stated that the dimension should be checked if the board has no open gap on a side.

Andreas

For example im using the HPGL export for big plotters to print them, but the Cam Processor was removed from the schematic, that is now unusable for me.

I would really suggest not removing features but adding, that upsets allot of old users like me, that have be using it for almost decade now. Those feature set eagle apart from other Softwares but stripping them of does more harm then good. I know it takes work to keep Things operational but such export function should be a one time thing if done Right

Hello @konstantinXHM7H,

The CAM processor is currently being worked on heavily. We do want to provide HPGL or an equivalent so that you can regain that functionality. We don't have immediate plans to put the CAM processor back into the schematic for the time being but if there is enough demand we will consider it.

For printing purposes the printing functionality should be improved to cover your case. That is also on the table.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
