HDPI Interface

Eagle does not displays correctly in HDPI Windows. The icons are too small. Most of the programs are escalated correctly, but Eagle wont.

The above screenshots are for a 12" display.

Hello @hugoescalpelo,

I hope you're doing well today. You can scale the icons by going clicking on Options > User Interface. On the bottom right you'll see a field called icon size that by default has a value of 16. Try 32 or 48 and then click OK. You will have to restart EAGLE, but at that point the icons should look much better.

Please accept as solution if my post fully resolves or you issue, or reply with additional details if the problem persists.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Dear Jorge,

does any of the recent versions or Autodesk Eagle fix the render issues with the small fonts (i.e component references and values in the schematic) with HDPI / Retina Displays?.

I'm in particular interested in knowing when a Retina Display is correctly supported in the OSX versión to buy a professional license.

Hi Javier Rodas,

Greatly appreciate your participation on the forums, I will bring up your suggestion to the development team to see if something can be for the retina screen.  Is there any possibility of sharing a screen shot? Would make the enhancement request easier to understand.

Best Regards,

Ed

Hello,

I can post two screenshots of the free version 7 of Eagle (in this particular case 7.3.0) running on an iMac 27" 5K Retina Display to show the issue.

All the texts / fonts on the schematic look completely blurry on such a HDPI screen, and after some zoom out, they are completely unreadable even when there is plenty of screen resolution available for such not so small fonts.

I was wondering if the new Eagle 8.x versions improved in this sense or not, because for me the previous 7.x version is unusable with such an HDPI display.

Any comment about the actual text/fonts rendering improvements in Eagle 8.x regarding Eagle 7.x? (specially with HDPI displays).

Thanks.

Hi, Javier.  There was an update to Eagle 8.0 that improved the display of icons on high-resolution displays.  Please try updating to the latest version of Eagle and see if that works for you!

Javier was asking about fonts/text within the drawing area, not icons so updating to v8 won't solve the issue. This is still an issue on v8 on macOS. I first reported it to CADSoft quite a long time ago (before the Autodesk acquisition) and they did manage to make some improvements to the later versions of v7 such that menu texts are now using nicer fonts and full resolution but the text within drawings is not improved at all sadly. I am hoping this will get sorted out properly sometime soon.

Best Regards,

I agree with Rachael. I was referring to the text/fonts rendering, not to the icons which we already know that in 8.x versions of Eagle can be set at different sizes and so they are "HDPI compatible".

What is really problematic (not a minor issue in our opinion) is the way the fonts are rendered on the schematic and PCB layout areas of the screen, because even when the text/fonts are several millimetres heigh on screen, they are UNREADABLE after some zoom out. In a HDPI display with more than 186 or 217dpi of screen resolution (3840x2160px @ 4K 24" or 5120x2880px @ 5K 27", really common nowadays) this is quite frustrating and annoying. In such screens a 2:1 scale factor is typically used by the OS, resulting in an effective resolution which is the double on each axis than the respective 16:9 resolutions, 1920x1080p or 2560x1440p.

So in general it's not an issue with small fonts, but also with any font size rendered on screen, which do not take advantage of the double resolution available to have CRISP CLEAR FONTS as in the rest of the windows/apps of the OS!!.

So, we leave here this feature request and hope that you soon be able to support it.

Thank you.
