EAGLE 8.1.0 Won't Start

Hi.  I have downloaded E8.1.0 and it started the first time after installing.  I got so far as to add a new custom part.  The second time and from then on, the program won't start.  After the splash screen a new window opens up with the message, "This webpage is not available"  There is ERR_INVALID_CHUNKED_ENCODING error.  The details provide in that message are:

The webpage at contapi.circuits might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hi rjuncosa,

I hope you're doing well. Just to be sure, try starting EAGLE by clicking on the eagle_SW_OpenGL.bat file that inside the EAGLE installation directory.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi rjuncosa,

I got some info from the devs. Do you have anti-virus software installed? If you do try disabling it for 30 minutes and then try to login to EAGLE.

Does it work now? If it does make sure to add EAGLE and Chrome to your Anti-virus software's list of trusted applications. If it doesn't then please let me know.

Please mark as solution if this resolves your issue.

I ran EAGLE from the batch file and the response was the same.  I have tested this with no anti-virus programs running.

Hi Bob,

Can you think of anything that might have changed on your system from when you first had EAGLE working to when it stopped working? An update or new software that may have been installed?

What operating system are you currently working with?

Please let me know.

Nothing changed.  The OS is Win7 x64.  I have uninstalled 8.1 and installed 8.02.  Same issue.  I uninstalled that and when back to 8.1.  No change.

The only thing I did that was "non-standard" was that I did not let the program install in c:\EAGLE.  I installed it in the Programs folder.  (c:\Program Files\EAGLE 8.1.0)

Hi Bob,

Thank you for that information. Please uninstall EAGLE and let it install to the root of the C drive like it wants to by default. The Windows OS places restrictions on the Program Files folder which can interfere with EAGLE's operation.

Please let me know if you continue to run into issues.

It is now installed off of the root but that did not solve the issue.  Same error message.

Hi rjuncosa,

I hope you're doing well. Try this, try running eaglecon.exe it's in the same location as the normal eagle.exe. It will probably ask to you login if you are successful then close eaglecon.exe and try running the normal EAGLE version and let me know what happens.

Well I got further.  I did get the log on screen and entered my email address.  Then I got the password screen and entered it.  That is as far as it got.  After that I got the same error as before.  "This webpage is not available"  ERR_INVALID_CHUNKED_ENCODING

Ah but there is good news.  I just did a search on that error code.  As it turns out, it can be caused if the proxy settings are turned on for internet connections.  I do not need/use a proxy but I have found from time to time that this setting gets changed somehow.  I used to have to go in and turn that off every once in a while.  I haven't had to do that lately.

Something must have changed those settings.  I can't say for sure if it was EAGLE.  Anyway, with the proxy off, this are working.

Thanks.
