Custom SCH BRD SCR ULP Icons

I have modified a couple of the icons provided in the new Autodesk Eagle and thought maybe somebody would like them as well.

The original icons for SCR, ULP, SCH, and BRD were not very legible due to a lack of contrast. White text in color can be hard to see.

All you need to do to enable these custom icons is unpack them and put them the bin/icons directory of your installation and restart Eagle.

I tried placing your files in my /Applications/EAGLE-8.0.2/bin/icons, adjusted the permissions and removed the xattr's my browser may have added so it would look like all other files but the images are not replaced in mine. What OS are you on?

Hey SamyKamkar,

I probably should've mentioned that I am currently on a Windows machine. I can test them with my Macbook later today, but I didn't think there would be much of a difference. I wonder if Eagle on Mac uses them from cache or deeper in the application libraries directories.

So it seems that the Mac version of Eagle does not use the icons from the icons directory. Any changes made to them do not reflect in the user interface.
I cleared every cache eagle uses and restarted, but it seems Eagle's icons are hard coded into it. Sad.

Thats a shame as I think your custom icons are better. Maybe Jorge or Ed can shed some light on this and offer a way to get them to work. Alternatively maybe they might consider using them in a future update?

Hi Rachael,

I hope you're doing well today. As it turns out the Mac and Linux versions handle icons differently than the Windows version. I'm bringing this up to the developers to see if there's anyway to get them to work in the same fashion as the Windows build does.

I'll follow up if I can get more info.

Hi Jorge,

I am good thank you, I hope you are too. I think the issue on the Mac side is the icons needs to be in a certain format and in a certain location otherwise it messes up with the HiDPI awareness on macOS and things wont work right. Not that they work 100% right in EAGLE on that front at the moment (we had long discussions on the old forums about this previously) but I wouldn't want something to change which broke the current level of HiDPI awareness. It should be possible to edit the file that contains the icons on the mac though so long as they remain in the correct format. I think I emailed you a document a while back covering this but I can't put my hands on it right now.

Best Regards,

Rachael
