Can't get a via to go through to all layers.

Can't route a via from layer 1 to layers 15 or 16.  In design rules - have tried (1*2+15*16), (1*2*15*16), 1*2+15*16, 1*2*15*16.  Nothing works.  Routing on layer 1, center mouse button on scroll wheel, then I get the message "can't set a via to layer 1" or "can't set a via to layer 15", and the corresponding messages for layer 16.

Hi bcarterW8DV4,

Thanks for participating on the forums, I hope all is well for you.  The layers setup that would worked based on your examples would be:

(1*2*15*16)

(1*2+15*16)

I am not certain what license you are using, but to use 4 layers, you need to have at least the standard edition of EAGLE. Was this working before and now stopped working on this design?

Best Regards,

Ed

I don't know why, but it started working.  We got the full license so I have unlimited layers, etc.  8.0 works, 8.1 crashes - HARD - so I haven't updated.  Win 7.

Hi bcarterW8DV4,

I hope you're having a good day. For 8.1.0 have you tried starting EAGLE using the eagle_SW_OpenGL.bat file that is in the installation directory? That will probably solve the crash.

Please let me know if this works for you.

Got it working, but I can't save the batch file to the taskbar.  And it seems to have broken Eagle 8.0.  Kind of a mess!

Hi bcarterW8DV4,

Right click on the bat file and select Send to > Desktop(create shortcut) from there you can move it to the task bar.

In what sense did it break 8.0.0? Normally you need to sign out from one version to be able to sign in to another. If you sign out of 8.1, can you sign back in to 8.0?

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

I pasted a screen shot.  Something about the file being locked by user bcarter.  I AM user bcarter!  The screen capture doesn't show the little endless circle.  I waited 15 minutes, that circle never went away so I could select an option at all.  Not ignore, not delete lock.  It really is bad - I can't work on my board at all now because 8.0.2 is broken, or the project is -  and that batch file is missing so I can't get into 8.1.0.

On a desperate whim - I clicked on "ignore" - even while the rotating circle of death was active - and it accepted "ignore" - I then saved under a new name and am working with 8.0.2 again.  I am counting my blessings and will continue with the old version until a solution is found for the disappearing batch file on 8.1.0.

Hi bcarterW8DV4,

The file locking is a feature in all versions of EAGLE. If you don't need ( I presume you are the only EAGLE user) then you can disable it by going Options > Backups/ Enable Locking. Uncheck the File Locking checkbox. In the case you ran into you can always delete the lock.

In order to get the batch file back, the easiest solution is to just reinstall EAGLE.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
