Board cutout not processed by manufacturer?

Hi folks,

I created a cutout in a board via Fusion.

After exporting the Gerber files and uploading them to JLCPCB (and Oshpark), the cutout is not recognized:

I tried layer 20 (as done by Fusion) and layer 46 (Milling), both with the same effect.

Anyone able to help out?

Hi

I'm not sure it matters which layer you put the cutout on in the board editor, it's the CAM processor that's causing you the problem

One of the recent updates gave me a similar issue.  you'll need to check your CAM file and make sure that the cut out is in the correct layer.

I just clarified with the board house and they said that layer 20
(dimensions) is fine

I don't know if you are missing the point here or if I don't understand what the problem is.

The CAM processor dictates which layers from your board layout appear in which gerber files (the files that are used by your fabricator to manufacture your boards)

Usually you will be asked for

Top layer:                                            pcbname.GTL

Bottom layer:                                     pcbname.GBL

Solder Stop Mask top:                      pcbname.GTS

Solder Stop Mask Bottom:               pcbname.GBS

Silk Top:                                               pcbname.GTO

Silk Bottom:                                        pcbname.GBO

NC Drill:                                                pcbname.TXT

Mechanical layer :                            pcbname.GML

The mechanical layer usually contains your board dimension layer and is used to generate the outline.  if you have cutouts as well they can either be drawn on the dimension layer or you can draw them on a different layer and instruct the CAM processor to include that layer on the output to the .GML file.

I would open your CAM processor, select the CAM file that you are using to generate your gerber files and have a look at the layers output to gerber file.  You should get a small preview window where you can inspect what will appear on each of the gerber outputs.
