After editing library get "Can't close window while command is running!" error

Running Eagle 8.0.0

MacOS 10.12.2

After editing a part in my library I tried to close the window and got this error message "Can't close window while command is running!". I also got it when trying to close other windows as well as the application at a hole. Forced closed and retried with similar results. Will try rebooting now.

Some added information,

Rebooting helped me get me back to work but still had issues. The workflow effected seemed to be involve with me duplicating a part, making some small modifications and then renaming. After rebooting the renaming action on the same part cause a application crash.

If I had to point my finger at something it would likely be renaming, but since it is a new version and not seen this before that assumption is based on little information.

Hello TravisJoe,

Normally that type of error pops up if you are running a ULP. Could you post a screencast recreating the issue? Once I see it, I'll know exactly what it is and what you can do differently to avoid it.

Let me know if this isn't an option and we will go from there.

Thanks for the response.

I have not run any ULPs, at least none that I am aware of.

I can work on the screencast soon, but will have to wait until it is more convenient.

Thanks

I get the same issue.

I get it after dragging a package from the control panel to a new library.

Hello Everyone,

I just tried to reproduce the issue on our latest test build and was unable to. We will be releasing a "get well" release with bugfixes and other corrections around the end of this week to early next.

If the issue persists after the release please let me know.

If it doesn't, then please accept as solution so that we know this has been resolved.

Best Regards,

Thank you, I appreciate the quick (hopefully) resolution. Otherwise I am happy with how things are looking with Eagle. Cannot wait for more updates.

I see the same issue sporadically when working with libraries using Eagle 8.0.0 on OS X 10.12.2.  A Force Quit fixes my issue and I haven't found a way to reproduce the failure (haven't tried).   I too look forward to the update, please let us know so we can upgrade.

Hi,

I am also getting similar issue at MacOS 10.12.3 and Eagle 8.0.0.

I was trying to make a library for one component from scratch. No ULPs, no script. I still got stuck saying that a command is running. There is no chance to stop command nor save a library. It is very annoying to loose nearly done library on this.

Actually, first time I got this, when I had footprint ready, I was drawing a symbol. Then I realized I didn't name pads. So I switched to footprint. It did not actually display the footprint, and as I said, no chance to stop command, no chance to save. Only force quit and start from beginning.

Then I had footprint and symbol ready and I wanted to but it into device. When I clicked to add package, again unstoppable command.

Hello @johnpaul_perron

My issue I believe started with the library manager, but would then effect closing any window. This might be a useful clarification, did you use then library manager then see the issue?

Updated to 8.0.1

Still the exact same bug.

Makes editing libraries pretty impossible.

Hi Everyone,

I have received reports of this popping up even after 8.0.1. Here is what I need from you guys. I need someone to get a me a step by step procedure to reproduce the crash, if I get multiple responses that is OK I just need to be able to reproduce this bug.

As soon as I have more info I will post.

Sure, I will be doing a lot of board design later this week and see if I can provide more information.

Thanks for keeping an eye on this.

It happens to me when dragging devices and packages from the Control Panel to my library. I drag the part and then it freezes.

Replying mainly to get a notification when a fix is ready.

I've been working with Eagle 8.0.1 all day ... probably have hit this like 10-15 times just today.

I have to Force Quit Eagle to resolve.

Thanks

+1.  Force Quit appears the only way.  I have this primarily working with library creation but have seen it when I'm working with a schematic too.  At the first point after I try to go from creating a symbol back to the table of contents by pressing the button, I see no response from the UI and the red STOP button is active, eg something is running.  I press Stop, the button greys out, but the system is still stuck.  When I try and quit the program, or close the library window, is when i get the error.  The stop button is not stopping whatever is going on in the background.

Terribly frustrating - i have to keep the application monitor app running all the time now, and am worried about file corruption killing eagle this way.
