8.0 features severely limite4d or missing

In previous versions of Eagle, I've been able to edit part packages to change pads, and so forth, from within the Schematic view. Suddenly, it seems as if this feature is...being removed. One can still do it, more by crook and hook than anything else. Also, the "Next" selection, when clicking in a highly populated region, seems to be missing entirely. It's difficult to build up multiple layers or work with (or even create) areas with densely populated components. What's going on?

If the intent is to try to "dumb the product down for experimenter use" or "create a premium subscription feature set"...well,...there are probably better ways of driving sales of professional tools than annoying the customer base.

Hello ariesboy571,

I hope you're having a good day. In Autodesk EAGLE, by default the Group command's behavior has been modified. If you want to do a cycle selection you don't use the Next command in right-click context menu. The correct method is to  hold down Alt and then left-click to cycle through the various nearby items. The goal of this new GROUP command behavior is to have an interface that is closer to what users are used to in other programs.

If this new behavior feels too weird you can always revert to the old behavior by going Options > Set > Misc and uncheck the Group Default On option and Click OK. This will make the group function behave just like it did before so you don't have to go through the new selection workflow if you don't like it.

Please accept as solution if my post fully resolves or you issue, or reply with additional details if the problem persists.

I don't recall ever being able to edit components directly from the schematic editor, or the board editor for that matter.  In the schematic it is possible to select your preferred package using the context menu. If you require to edit the component properties, you can use the context menu (from the schematic) and select one of the following options:

- Open Symbol

- Open Device

Depending of what modification are necessary, you can edit the symbol or the device.  If you need to make changes to the package, go to the device editor. From the device you can use the context menu to reach the package variant you wish to edit.

After making whatever edits necessary, make sure to save the library. Return to the schematic and click the Library pull down menu and select Update. Select Library, navigate and select the edited library, modifications will update the pertaining components on your design.

In my opinion, Its best to keep all component edits in the libraries, editing the component directly on the Schematic or Board File direct can cause confusion or inconsistencies in future when I need to use this part.

I hope this helps.

Best Regards,

Ed
