Re-naming schematic gates in a device?

I've just created a new dual LED device, I've drawn the new footprint (it's got two devices in one package, so four pins).

While creating the device I added the schematic symbol of a single LED twice as it seemed the most sensible thing to do. However I'd like to re-name the gates somehow to show which is the Red and which is the Green LED.

Is that possible?

Thanks

G

Sure it's possible.

If you've placed two symbols in a device as separate gates (you'll want them both set to add=always I think) then just rename the gates in the device editor. You can use fairly arbitrary names, so set one to "RED" and the other to "GREEN". They will appear on your schematic as "LED1RED" and "LED1GREEN" or such like. Add underscores to taste 😉

If you choose, instead, to draw a single symbol made up of two copies of the normal LED symbol (which may be more sensible for some types of multi-colour LED) then you can put any arbitrary text you want on the symbol.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, that sounds great but I can't work out how to do it!

Thanks,

G

Well, step by step it's:

- open the library in the library editor (double-click in the control panel)

- open the device editor on your dual LED (double-click in the left-most list)

- select the "NAME" tool (click on the "R2" icon)

- click on the anchor point of your first LED symbol

- type the name you want, e.g. "-RED"

- click on the anchor of the second LED

- type the name, e.g. "-GREEN"

- save the library, update in your schematic, see the results

You do need to click quite close to the anchor point (+ symbol) and you need to have the selection filter set to allow the place marker to be selected (where relevant - not sure the device editor has a selection filter)

Hey, as of today the Name tool does not work in the device editor. I am creating a resistor array, and this is a managed library now after I added a 3D model. When I click the Name tool then click the symbol in the device editor, nothing happens and I get an error sound.

What gives?

I hope you're doing well.

Works when you select an item.

Are you perhaps being caught out by the selection filter? Or just not clicking close enough to the + symbol? Or don't have the "origins" layer active?
