Converting a 7.7.0 schematic into a 9.6.2 version (using fusion 360)

Hi,

We're having a slight dilemma at my office. We recently purchased eaglecad and we find ourselves quite stumped on the 3d modeling aspect using the new libraries...

All our old libraries and schematics are in version 7.7.0. We now have a client who would like to see one of the PCB boards in 3d to make sure it fits the final product. I have successfully loaded a new project and imported a 3d version (without the 3d models of the pcb, only boxes) but we would like to have a more detailed view of the project using 3d models imported using STEP files of the components.

We created a new managed library and imported all the related STEP file to fill the packages. After I do this, all the components lose their annotation. Once I push to a PCB view, all the components lose their layout and I am unable to push it to fusion 360.

Is there a way to convert the old library system to the new managed library system without losing the schematic placements and annotations after the transfer? Am I doing a step wrong somewhere? We have over 200 individual components on that board and doing it manually (re-mapping all the components) would take too long to make it worth it.

I hope you're doing well. Could you provide more background info? Did you update the design immediately after creating the managed library. It's always important to do this otherwise the update functionality can break.

You mention that you created a new managed library, that implies that you didn't convert the old ones to be managed libraries. Is that correct? The correct procedure would be to convert the old ones to managed then update the designs. Once the old libraries have been converted into managed libraries then you can put in the step models to the managed libraries.

Don't worry about losing the old libraries, when you turn them into managed libraries they get archived locally to the archive folder in Documents > EAGLE. So you can always get them back.
