AutoRouter - Error Message "Error in Parameters, check RoutingGrid"

I posted a question about the AutoRouter earlier. I found out later that my definition of the "Width", "Drill", and "Clearance" in Net Class causes this problem.

I defined the Width, Drill and Clearance in the past, no any problems with AutoRouter.

If someone know how the Net Class definition relates to the AutoRouter (or RoutingGrid). I do need to define my power lines and GND to be larger than the normal lines. What I should to to avoid this error.

Thanks,

Dawn

Hello Dawn,

I hope you're doing well. The Autorouter obeys the rules you define in the Netclasses. However I don't think the netclasses have to do with the original issue you reported on the other thread.

The routing grid is a unique parameter of the autorouter and completely separate from the normal working grids of the schematic and board editor. If you disable the Auto grid option then you get the option to define the routing grid yourself. The attached picture shows how you can have this setting.

The lowest value it can have is 2mils. It's completely separate from the netclasses. Perhaps it was accidentally set to a value less than 2 mils.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Best Regards,

P.S I've noticed that you have posted this into a separate thread. It would be good if in the future you can post in the same thread that way we don't have multiple threads about the same issue, it can make it difficult for users in the future to find answers.

Hi Jorge,

Thank you very much for your message.

Could you let me know what is the typical "Width", "Drill ", and "Clearance" to be used in PCB design. How the parameters for Power and GND lines.

Thanks,

Dawn

Hi Dawn,

The width very much depends on the amount of current those traces will be carrying. A basic rule of thumb is 10mils/500mA so if they are carrying 2 Amps you would use 40mil traces. The width can also change if you have a certain impedance you are trying to maintain in the circuits.

The clearance and drill values can be dicatated by your board geometry, noise concerns and a whole host of other things.

I'm sorry I don't have a straight forward suggestion for these parameters but they vary depending on the needs of the design. I would start with the width requirement and go from there.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Best Regards,
