Stretch and array in a dynamic block

Hi; this seems so simple - I must be having a(nother) senior moment...

Using AutoCAD 2012, I'm trying to stretch one set of objects and array another, all using the same linear parameter. The stretching is working fine but the array isn't. Can you spot my mistake??

try to redraw (make new) elements what you try to array (polyline and hatch) and attach to array action

 Well, yeah - that worked. I'm dumbfounded as to why!!!
