That's the big dilemma. Either you use a Dynamic Array Action (so you also can change the dimensions of the source object and the array instances will reflect these). But the so needed Dynamic Parameter (Linear or Polar or XY) can't be used in any Expression (to calculate any distances or numbers).
Or you use Parametric Constraints. The values of (Dimensional) Parametric Constraints can be used in expressions (to calculate distances or numbers of an array), but this array doesn't follow when you modify the source object. Period.
In some rare situations it may be possible to combine different methods, but before we can offer such suggestions we need to know more detailed what you need and what exactly you want to achieve. By others do you need only a limited range of discrete values or do you need completely arbitrary values (for both the source geometry and the matrix). Please describe as exact as possible what you want to get.
