Glass Dynamic Block Topic

Not applicable

Dear Reader,

This topic is for everyone to post their Glass Dynamic Block ONLY. Please do NOT post other kinds of blocks here.

I know there is a topic called "Dynamic Block Show Off..." and we can post everything there. However, I am starting a way of organising D-Blocks in this community by creating a topic for each specific block. This is the first of this series and will be for Glass Dynamic Blocks ONLY. Please do NOT post other kinds of blocks. I cannot delete your post if you do post an unrelated block but I will ask a moderator to do it kindly.

"The Value of anything is upon the amount of time you spend on it." (Said me)

I hope this step is useful and valuable to all community members.

"Any journey starts with the first step." (Said someone)

Thanks and Cheers

Behzad

Hey,

I start the first block myself.

Glass Dynamic Block was always something I wanted to make. I have made many with stretch and visibility but last week I learnt something here from Libbya about having 2 visibility in one block. Today I gave it a shot and applied that lesson on this block.

In this block you can do things that I showed in the picture.

Please have a look and advise if anything is going unexpected on your side when you try it.

Any advise to improve this block is kindly and thankfully accepted.

Thanks to Libbya for posting the lesson of how to have more than one visibility in one dynamic block.

Cheers,

Behzad

hi - all is fine

if I can recommend - it's a little bit easier for double lookup use point parameter. In this case you don't need even actions for this point parameter

Regards

Juris

P.S.

think about to limit thickness to exact values

Ojuris,

I see your change has reduced the size of the block to half. It looks simpler as well. Thanks.

To do a double visibility I used the lesson from Libbya in link below and did step by step.

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/dynamic-blocks/ootb-multiple-visibility-states-solution/td-p/4961288

I was a good student to manage to make my block work. Now I have to understand why Libbya used move not point parameter. I guess it is because there where 2 visibility with 4 different state for each. Maybe point parameter cannot handle more than 2 state for each visibility.

If you know the why, please advise.

About glass thickness limitation to exact numbers, as you see the glass can be lam or not lam. For lam, glass thickness is 0.38mm or 0.76mm more than typical. Now if I add the values of 6, 6.38, 6.76, 8, 8.38, etc. then if a user leave the visibility to not lam with 6.38 then it is wrong. I left it open so the user change it as required. What do you think about it? We can also hide the grip of thickness so it is only changeable in properties menu as another option. Will this make it better?

Cheers,

Behzad

quick answer about point parameter

if you need more than 2 posibilities (in your case you need 2) - you can use 2nd point parameter, then you have 4 posibilities etc.

I don't know what and why Libbya use in that video (may be look little bit later) but he use point parameters too

About thickness I think little bit

Ojirus,

For diff between point and other one I will dig in to it and try to use point as much as I can. It seems less things to do.

For glass thickness, Hats off! I don't know how you did it but I will look and understand how you did it!

The linked multi-vis thread was the first time I figured out how to get that to work.  I've learned a lot since the first post in that thread.  Even later in the thread, the concept is a lot more refined.  I only use point parameters for lookup input unless it is a parameter that is already being used in the block for other purposes.  There is no need for any actions attached to parameters used exclusively for lookup input and later in the linked thread I say as much.

Thanks Libbya

I always remember whom I learnt my lessons from as far as my brain follows me. That's the least I can do to appreciate. If it wasn't for that topic you created I may not have started my new glass DB anyway.

Updated Glass Dynamic Block is attached. I added some values to glass thickness to suit our industry of glazing. I also included the lookup parameters acting as visibility in glass thickness stretch action so they move when glass thickness is changed. Added description for rotation parameter too.

Many thanks to Libbya and Ojuris for lessons and help.

Cheers

All,

Please post your Glass Dynamic Block here for sharing, improving and cheering!

I will add your post to the solutions if it contains a Glass DB so it jups jumps up to the first post for easy future searching.

Hey Everyone,

As promised the Dyblock for double glazed glass is ready and I post it here.

The block has options to change various of elements as shown in the picture below.

Thanks to Ojuris for fixing an error in visibility.

And thanks to Libbya for creating the multi-visibility method.

If it happens and you open a block and find an unexpected behaviour in one or some visibilities, please let me know so I can fix it.

I hope this will be a use in someone's work.

Kind Regards,

Behzad

Here's mine, excuse the dutch language 🙂
I didn't do triple glazing since we rarely use it.
