Elevation datum block not flipping correctly

I have a elevation datum block that is just not cooperating.  When the line is on the left, it works wonderfully.  When I flip it to the right, the text justification does not update.  After much research, I have been trying to use visibility states to resolve this but I can't get it to work.  As soon as I flip the line, the text goes strange anyway.  Can anyone look at this and tell me what I am doing wrong?  I have attached the original block, without the visibility states.

There are a couple ways to go.  One is to do an ATTSYNC after you edit one of the flipped attributes.  The justification will update.  Unfortunately you need to run the command after EACH edit which can be tedious.  The other is to add a visibility state for the other direction and use a double lookup to switch visibility states when the flip is activated.
