Dynamic Block with stretch/array/visibility issues

Hello,

I've spent the better part of the last two days scouring the forums for a solution to this.  

I'm using the downtime in the event industry to update my blocks and have been trying to simplify this one for a few years.  I am trying to build a block that combines all of the blocks in this drawing. There is a length of drape with multiple types of base plates, as you extend the drape beyond 10' in length , baseplates insert (either at center for lengths up to 20', or every 10' for lenghts over 10'.) 

I think I need to start using lookups, but have not had success following some of the how to's here on the forums.

Any help would be appreciated.

This screencast shows how to implement the automatic switching of visibility states based on the length parameter.  I did not do all the desired parts of the finished block (as the vid is already 15 minutes long) but it should get you started and gives the gist of how to do other parts.  Report back if you get stuck or have questions on any part of it.
