Self-extracting (Windows) installer runs idle for hours

I recently posted a question in this forum, and in the meantime, tried to upgrade my 2014 DWG TrueView to 2018, removing version 2014 prior to launch (an action I regret!) The self-extraction step ran idle for hours, until I killed the process. I tried both 64 and 32-bit versions, then 2019 versions, to no avail. Same with version 2014 that I could locate on the AutoDesk website. I was able to install version 2013, the last version that doesn't use an _sfx.exe installer but a plain exe. What causes this? It is not browser-related, since I first launched the downloaded installer from the Windows Explorer.

Nope. My Windows 7/64 Professional laptop is always connected to the Internet and I do have the required certificate. It's hard to diagnose the problem since the installer does not report an error message, instead it just idles.

Hhm, okay may be a problem of a visual cpp runtime, that is not installed or does not work as expected.

Could this be diagnosed for sure and fixed? Otherwise I'll never be able to upgrade in the future.

Not being to export a simple line plot to PDF from version 2013, I again try to install version 2018 (32-bit). Still idling at self-extraction step. Can't AutoDesk fix its installer?

@Anonymous I recommend procmon from microsoft's sysinternals.

Do you know how to use ? If not send me a private message and I will try to help.

Solved: The installer must be run in administrator mode.
