DWG Trueview 2014

Hi

I have failed to find how to log a request direct to AutoDesk so will try here.

Our Setup

AutoCAD 2013

AutoCAD Raster Design 2013

DWG Trueview 2013/14

A lot of the time we work with hybrid drawings and a common problem we would get is AutoCAD Raster design could not save the hybrid drawing and would create a temp file.

Nobody could work this out but I have discovered the problem.

If a CAD/Hybrid drawing is being viewed by someone through DWG Trueview and another user is editing that some drawing in AutoCAD and trying to save the hybrid image autodesk will not allow this due to someone viewing the same drawing in DWG Trueview.

I have tried and tested this theory many times and it is the cause of the problem.

If the user viewing in DWG Trueview closes the drawing and the user in Autodesk trys saving the hybrid drawing all works fine.

Any AutoDesk people out there know of this issue?

Are there solutions?

Why does this happen since DWG trueview is a read only program?

Are there any solutions (and no I we cant find the person viewing the drawing each time as there are hundreds of users.)

thanks

Simon

Hi,

>> Why does this happen since DWG trueview is a read only program?

TrueView can e.g. convert data, so it's  not really a readonly program.

I would use the "Open as readonly" option in TrueView so the issues could be avoided (to be honest I don't have TrueView installed and so can not verify at the moment if hte "Open Read-Only" option is available in TrueView, sorry if I'm wrong).

As noted, DTV is AutoCAD without the ability to save changes, so it hogs a DWG file just like AutoCAD would when someone opens it.

interesting it hogs the hybrid file attached to the drawing but not the CAD part, because we can edit and save a straight CAD drawing at the same time someone is viewing it in Trueview + if its a CAD/Hybrid drawing and we edit CAD entities only and not touch the hybrid it will save but as soon as we edit any hybrid within a drawing and try saving while someone is viewing it in trueview it throws it toys.

So I guess there is not solution.

Thats a real pain and a real headache.

Trueview is a read only software so there is not open-read only option.

Thanks though.

Dean is right. True view just opens up the drawing and doesn't give you an option to save. you mentioned that hybrid is locking up when you are editing it in AutoCAD and simultaneously viewing it in Trueview. May I understand what this hybrid is and how its created and what software is used for.

Appreciate your inputs.

Hi

A hybrid (or Raster) drawing is a drawing that has been scanned into an electronic format so to make it editable.  could of been drawing by hand and scanned into an electronic format for editing.

Most of our files start with a prefix of .cal then we convert the to a file ext. of .gp4

These files are attahced to the .dwg file and open with opening the .dwg file.

AutoCAD Raster Design is the add-on program that gives you the tools to edit these files.

See attachments for a screen shot of a CAD-Hybrid drawing (easy to tell the CAD from the hybrid) and another of the tile structure

Thanks for the details. Can you able to share a file with us. I can send you a secure link for you to upload the .GP4 file. We could be able to test and provide you an update on this.

The site won't let me upload a .gp4 file for you to test.

Hi Simon,

No problem. I am happy to help you here. Its an open link and you should be able to drag and drop without logging in. I have also enabled editor access and sent you an invitation to your registered email address in the forum. You should be able to upload through that link in the email. Hope it helps.

Hi.

I uploaded those files a few days ago.  Have you had a play with them, can you reproduce the same issue as we are getting?
