Creating DWFx where text is searchable

When I create a DWFx plot, the text in the drawing is not searchable in the DWF viewer. Yet when I use the same drawing and produce a DWF format, the text is searchable? Any suggestions?

Are you using SHX fonts?

When you create text using an SHX font, AutoCAD
draws that text using a series of polylines and other geometries such as contour
sets, The way AutoCAD draws something affects what appears in the DWF file,
because a DWF is like an electronic plot. So for SHX fonts, the text string
never appears in the DWF file. When you use a TrueType font, AutoCAD sets the
font and has Windows draw the characters using the text string. So for TTF
fonts, the text string does appear in the file. When you search for text, you
find it. When we created the original DWF specification, we knew this issue
would come up, so for DWF we included an invisible text string in a dummy TTF
font along with the geometry that really displays the text you have in SHX. So
when you search the DWF for your strings, you are really locating the dummy
strings that the DWF publishing process puts there. All is well.

A DWFx file conforms to the Microsoft XML Paper
Specification (XPS). XPS is what Windows sends to printers. I am not sure
if the specification allows for invisible items. One of the DWF Toolkit
programmers will probably correct me. If it does not allow this, then that's why
the invisible strings are not there. If the XML specification does allow this,
then we neglected to add this same trick to DWFx that we had done for
DWF.

Of course if you are not using SHX fonts, then my
whole answer is moot.
