I need to lodge a complaint.
As an Adesk Civil 3D subscriber, I am trying very hard to get my clients, reviewing agencies, contractors and coworkers accustomed to using the dwf format rather than producing literally thousands of pieces of paper.
Needless to say, the dwf format has not been "picked up" as a standard format in the industry. Most people ask me, "what's that?" when I explain to them what I'm about to e-mail to them. I usually tell them it is analagous to a pdf, but much smarter and better. I point them to autodesk.com and tell them to download it for free.
I haven't had a lot of success, partly because Autodesk makes these people fill out a form with their e-mail address, etc... before they can download it. Adobe doesn't require that. I think that is one reason people so readily accept it.
I understand Autodesk's desire to gather marketing information, but I fear they are doing the dwf format irreparable harm by requiring this information.
