create date changes after modifying a dwg

When i save a drawing stored in a network location the auto field "create date" changes to the current date.

We never had this problem before

The create date field of dwg's stored locally are ok, date stays static as it should be.

Autocad 2012 is running on the windows 7 64_bit operation system.

What are the specs of the network location the DWG is being saved to?

Is it a NAS/SAN ?

That is probably contributing to the problem. We started storing DWG files on a NAS a few months ago and started having all sorts of problems.  Things like we could make changes to a DWG, save it, then open it back up and the changes were not there (and other oddities).

Autodesk specs say to use a Windows server, period. We got rid of the NAS and got rid of those problems.

Your problem could be something else, but I would test storing files on a windows server if possible, then compare the results.

The information about NAS/SAN servers is correct and i'd like to thank everyone for posting that information. I believe that this is more than a server issue as the Createdate field only works if the file is stored in the same location where it was created. If sent to another source, such as a client in another company, When the file is opened the Createdate field updates and reflects the date/time the file was first opened on that computer. Why the files are updating the Createdate field when stored and worked with in a network location on certain servers is something I don't have an answer for.

What I do have is a solution that one of our customers provided. The following macro can be inserted into a custom DIESEL expression field and will give you a static create date.

$(upper,$(edtime, $(getvar, tdcreate),d/M/YYYY))

Cheers,

Volker

Accepted as "a" solution, not the solution. Smiley Wink

with this diesel expression "$(upper,$(edtime, $(getvar, tdcreate),d/M/YYYY))"

the create date is indeed static

but when performing a "save as" the create date stays the same as in the original file.

So unless there is somebody who has another diesel expression

that can handle a "save as" this works for me.

thanks in advance
