Modifying sketch used for extruding

Suppose I draw a first rectangle and then extrude it to make a massive body.

Now, suppose I want to change the massive body to a hollow profile by drawing a second rectangle within the first rectangle.

Would it be possible to do this?

If yes, how? I have tried without any success.

Keep sketches as simple as possible - I would not draw another smaller square to later extrude remove the material

instead

hollow out the extrusion use the shell command

this way the shelling is an interactive command

and the sketch is pretty simple and thus easy to adjust

This is very easy to do.

Attach your *.f3d file here and I will demonstrate how.

I would say that what you are attempting is doable, the advice you recieved was for one / easier way to do it, 

however, if the wall thickness varies the shell command is not going to do that job.

You will know if you want to extrude the original box, and then extrude a smaller cutting box, perhaps the cutting box is not concentric, and you would do it the way the question reads.

Fusion can make the same sized article, many ways.

two other options

1. Extrude the square edges via patch extrude then add thickness via the thickness command

2. Add a smaller square inside the bigger square, add dimensions, extrude the area with solid extrude that defines the shell area in the sketch
