Hi,
For the last couple days Fusion 360 keeps freezing on me. But it is very strange. I'll save a file, or close out some small menu, and then it's like it's...loading? No matter where I click, nothing happens. I just hear that "beep" sound of clicking on an unsupported area. Generally, this happens in lots of programs when a menu has opened up that you haven't seen. You'll close that menu that popped up, sometimes "behind" your main program, and then it'll go back to responding to your clicks. But there is no menu that has opened up. Nothing's happened. But no matter how long I wait, Fusion won't start responding again. Each time this bizarre freeze happens, I have to Force Quit. I've sent multiple error reports but it keeps happening.
I've attached a Screencast Evidently it doesn't show much, but you see how everything looks "normal" and yet no matter where I click I get no response. Does someone know what is happening?
Hi @Zero__,
That does seem strange. Can you explain a bit about what you did before this video? For instance, is this just upon launching Fusion? If so - I run into this issue all the time - my recover documents window pops up (which if I look at the Fusion icon in my taskbar - I can see there are two windows) and I have to exit out of that window before it allows me to use Fusion. Otherwise, is there a command you run before hand? Are you running multiple monitors - or have recently disconnected from multiple monitors?
Thanks,
Hi @James.Youmatz - when this screencast was taken I had just been modeling for a while. I had just Saved the design. For a while I thought it needed some time to finish saving, but after ten minutes of waiting I gave up.
It has happened to me upon startup before and the Recovered Files window was hiding somewhere. I thought that was it. But now it's happened several times when I was in the middle of modeling, usually after I save a file. Making it worse is that I save all the time now because i don't know when fusion will freeze like that and I won't be able to save.
Hi @Zero__,
That is strange. In your eyes - can you reproduce this easily? I just want to see if we can set up a remote session together so I can see this live myself. I'm really curious as to what might be going on. If not - when it does happen can you try to keep an eye on Activity Monitor. Do any performance issues arise there? Also, next time it happens and you have to quit out - can you collect your diagnostic log files from the Help menu and send them my way. I'm curious if any errors or warnings are occurring in there.
Thanks,
@James.Youmatz, It finally happened again. I was updating a model to include the Latest Version of a couple components. It appears it gets stuck doing the update. There's a "Preparing to Compute" in the lower corner. I've been waiting about ten minutes, and I'll have to force quit soon.
Edit: I attached the crash log. The report is CER_146436709.
Hi @Zero__,
Let me check on the backend for you. It does look like this might be associated with a known defect though. Let me chat with some people and figure out if there is a way around this.
Thanks,
Hi @Zero__,
Can you share the data set with me (james.youmatz@autodesk.com) so we can test around a bit with this? A few other things as well - are you switching between Fusion 360 and Chrome (or other browser) frequently? We have seen a few times where this workflow has caused some view cube issues. Also, what are your system specs?
Thanks!
I have almost the same issue, mostly when I save Fusion hangs. It is a little better when I am working offline but it still happens. I have a feeling that my problems started with the last bigger Windows 10 update last week. Before that Fusion worked very well for me. Have updated the graphics driver, no difference.
Hi @James.Youmatz - apologies for the delay.
I don't use Chrome often, usually Firefox. I'm not sure whether I might have been using Chrome that day to interface with my markforged printer.
I've attached a picture of my system specs. Can you let me know the recommended specs? Not the minimum ones, but the preferred ones? I am about to buy a new CAD pc, so this info would be very useful.
Hi @Zero__,
Unfortunately - besides the minimum requirements, I don't really have any great recommendations. Personally I use a Dell Precision M4800 with 32 GB of RAM (definitely overkill - I do a lot of simulation work on my computer too with other softwares), with a NVIDIA Quadro K2100m (a bit on the older side) with 2GB of VRAM. My recommendation would be to hop over the Design & Validate board and ask around with what other users setups are.
@andersEQHR7 - This almost definitely seems network related - although a bit strange that you are just now experiencing this beahvior. If Fusion is saving when trying to send data to the cloud, my guess is something might be monitoring the network connection. Do you have any anti-viruses or network monitors that are active on the computer? Do you notice a big improvement in offline mode? Do you also notice this with all files (i.e. create a cube in a new file and save it in offline and online mode) or is it just one file? Can you post your diagnostic log files here (found in the help menu).
Thanks,
@James.YoumatzI don't think that this is network related, I have the same problem at 2 different locations with two different computers. Yes I have antivirus on the computers, but no network monitoring. It have also happened in offline mode, but more seldom. It is very strange, Fusion worked flawless yesterday evening many saves, but this evening I got a new hang at the first save. Was lucky to be able to get the logfile out before it quit working completely. Have had the same problem with different files. One thing that I have noticed are that saving online is very very slow.
I have the logfile at my computer but really don't want to upload it online like this, can I mail it to you directly instead?
Hi @andersEQHR7,
Certainly! Feel free to send them to james.youmatz@autodesk (just link to this post so I know which logs these are referring to!)
Thanks,
