Experiencing point-to-point move issue - 30 sec video included

Experiencing an issue where bodies set to align or execute a point to point move display the intended action and then continue moving in a seemingly arbitrary manner after the move is confirmed. I've tried the same movements in various component activation configurations and have had the same experiences, there seems to be no constant to the move - but I could be looking at the wrong dimensions.

Hi @Alobdell89,

Thanks for posting!

Unfortunately, I was unable to reproduce this behavior on my machine using some basic primitives. This leads me to believe that this issue may be design or machine specific. To help me troubleshoot this, would you be able to share the design with me? We have a great article, linked here, that describes the various ways that you can share your designs with others. For the purposes of troubleshooting this issue, I would recommend sharing either a public link to the design, or exporting an archive file and attaching that to your reply.

Thanks in advance for the design! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Cheers,

Hey @mike.tessier, thanks for your prompt response and follow up. I am still experiencing this issue, and I exported the project as an archive and re-uploaded it and the issue is persisting. I have a .gif of the issue persisting in the archive file I attached, and the archive file. Thanks for your time!

Hi @Alobdell89,

Thanks for getting back to me and for sharing the design!

I have downloaded it and begun trying to reproduce the behavior. I will circle back here once I have something to share!

Cheers,

Hi @Alobdell89,

Thanks for being patient with me while I looked into this issue!

I had a look at your design, and found that I was able to easily reproduce this behavior! However, I also noticed that you have a large amount of Move features in your timeline with no Snapshots. As the design sits right now, Fusion is just having a bit of a hard time keeping track of the positions all the bodies in your designs. In a parametric environment, positions matter a great deal because when computing the design (Ctrl+B), Fusion 360 redoes everything that you did in that design in the order that you did it!

However, it seems like this design might be more suited for a direct modeling environment. In a direct modeling environment positions do not matter as much - where ever the bodies/components sit is where they are and Fusion doesn't really keep track of it. I show this in the screencast linked here, where I switch to a direct modeling environment (making Fusion "forget" about the positioning of the bodies) and attempt to do the same move, which snaps right into place.

I also think that there may be a small misunderstanding of one of the most powerful thing about Fusion - joints.

Instead of "Move"-ing the different bodies into positions, you should try creating joints between the plates (for lack of a better term) and the frame. It looks like a few rigid joints would get you exactly what you are looking for. More information on joints can be found in the links below.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks Mike! I don't remember ever having issues with that workflow before, but I'll be more mindful of Fusion's preferences in the future.
