Hi everyone, I have a number of users who use Design Review 2018 and have been having issues with:

1. Using function keys on a different app will occasionally trigger design review. Such as hitting F1 after clicking in the second app will launch design review's F1 function. Is there a way to disable the function keys (they don't use them) or is there another fix for this? The issue is not reliable, sometimes it does this and other times it is fine.

2. While working in another program, Design review will decide to start highlighting things and will even save randomly, this can cause problems of course if the user did not wish to save changes and/or didn't realise it had saved.

Both points may be related to one another, seems like Design review thinks it's in full screen mode or something similar and wants to react to all user commands even when out of focus.

I have the same issue with function keys and other keyboard shortcuts. I usually have a few DR instances open to check a lot of drawings while drafting on AutoCAD, and using a few more applications as well.

Quite often I get one of the DR instances to be waiting for a second command, when I actually never meant to use any shortcut. Actually, quite often I'm working one one screen, and all DR instances are on the second screen.

Thing is, while DR is waiting for the second command that I never asked for (a save as, an open, etc). I notice this happens frequently when typing "@", which requires an alt gr keypress; if it triggers something on DR, the keyboard will not type anything until I check all DR instances and exit that shortcut. So, quite often, I type @ ffor relative coordinates on AutoCAD and after that keyboard is stuck and I am not able to input any numbers.

Design Review is quite useful to me to use alongside AutoCAD, but with this issue it becomes counter productive.

Is there a way to disable DR's keyboard shortcuts altogether?

I don't see the option in that page for either AutoCAD or Design Review

I think I may be experiancing a similar malfunction, and I started a thread about it here:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/design-review/help-design-review-hijacks-keyboard/td-p/9949265

What was the final solution to this? I see that the last post was over a year ago, and I can't imagine that Autodesk would not fix such a significant malfunction for over a year.

Thanks for your help.

You're kidding right?  Autodesk has been know to ignore issues for decades.

It seems like you're encountering a couple of issues with Autodesk Design Review 2018. Here are some suggestions to address them:

  1. Function key triggering: To prevent Design Review from launching when using function keys in other applications, you can try disabling the function keys within Design Review itself. Open Design Review and go to the "File" menu, then select "Options." In the Options dialog box, navigate to the "Function Keys" section. Here, you can customize or disable the function keys to prevent any unintended actions when using them in other applications.

  2. Random highlighting and auto-saving: This issue could potentially be caused by a misconfiguration or an interaction between Design Review and other software running on your system. One possible solution is to ensure that Design Review is not running in full-screen mode or any other specialized display mode. Check the program settings, or options to see if there is an option to switch to windowed mode or disable any automatic highlighting or saving features.

I've noticed that when I try to switch between views using keyboard shortcuts (e.g., Ctrl+Tab), Revit occasionally triggers unintended actions, such as activating a different tool onlinemathstutoring or even closing the current project without prompting to save changes. This issue doesn't happen consistently, which makes it difficult to pinpoint the cause. Has anyone else experienced similar issues or have any suggestions for troubleshooting?

What version are you using? I can't find anything about function keys in my design review options

They appear to be in the wrong forum discussing a different software altogether
