Does or doesn't Design Review support Inventor files?

Hi all,

According to the online information on the features of Design Review it does not (any longer) support *.iam / *.ipt files:

https://www.autodesk.com/products/design-review/overview

According to the (online) in-product help of Inventor it does:

"Using the free Autodesk Design Review software, team members who do not use CAD can access designs. They can review, mark up, measure, and track changes to designs and drawings."https://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2023/ENU/?guid=GUID-CD4AF4E7-9E37-43A6-B51C-2CD7F0ED3AAB )

Which is true? And if Autodesk actually dropped the support of Inventor files in Design Review, WHY?

BTW

I am working for a government agency, so as using the online viewer (cloud service) at https://viewer.autodesk.com/ is forbidden by law for both civil servants within the agency as for contractors working for the agency please do not suggest to use that as an alternative. It is not.

Best regards,

Jaap

No one here is Autodesk: we are all end users just like you.

See if this helps answer your primary question

No, it doesn't.

And I am not to worried, the "community managers" at Autodesk are watching the forums. And (unlike you) they are very aware that I am not really asking a question.

ADR is a dead product: the only community managers" around here are to ensure we do not misbehave, not much else. And if you are not really asking a question, then I will ask that your post be renamed as "a statement" or rant, whoever you wish. Autodesk looks for user input and feedback only at this other website, give that a try https://www.autodesk.com/company/contact-us/product-feedback

I suggest you post in the appropriate INVENTOR forum and ask fellow Inventor Users how they have solved the same issue https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor/ct-p/70 if you are really after a solution.

@pendean Not all of us.  😉

Some of us try to help out when we can, but to be honest, we just can't know about every product.  That said, I used ADR a lot in my old life, I just can't remember if it ever supported a native Inventor file without first publishing it as a .dwf.  But, as a .dwf, the files can be viewed and marked up by anyone who has the software.

Thank you for your reply Chris, you were actually one of the people I thought of when I posted the original message.

(For which I see no reason whatsoever to request to change the subject)

If I get around to it tomorrow I will fire up v2017, which we still have "in production". I'll come back to it.

ADR is only available in "v2017" and "v2013", so my guess is you are actually talking about a totally different view program perhaps?

Any luck with the installation of the viewer?

I face the same problem.

The online viewer is not an alternative for some critical work.
