Many of you might be using our connectors to exchange data between the apps you use, like between Revit and Inventor. If you have access to the particular design app, that makes working with exchanges easy within the space you’re used to.
For folks who might not have access to the design app in question – but who may still want work with design data and transfer it to other stakeholders – there’s another way to work with exchanges, specifically when working with Revit data.
If you have a license to just Autodesk Docs, you can create, update, and view exchanges from published Revit 2023 / 2024 models without having access to Revit itself! So long as you have “View + Download” permissions on a published Revit model in Autodesk Docs, you can create exchanges from any of the 3D Views available as part of the published set. Updating an exchange just requires you or a team member to upload a new version of the model directly to Autodesk Docs OR re-publish the model from Revit – the exchange updates automatically with any changes made to the 3D View.
Especially if you only have access to Autodesk Docs, this allows you too to control what Revit data gets shared out, when, and to whom. If you receive published models from your customers or stakeholders, for instance, you might find this particularly useful when connecting to business apps. You might not have access to Revit directly (or might not even want to open it 😊); you might be more fluent in a business tool (like Power Automate or Power BI); and you’re just interested in extracting data from a Revit model to that tool. This method allows you to do just that (check out the attached video to see more).
