Attend at AU 2021. Reserve your seat here: https://events-platform.autodesk.com/event/autodesk-university-2021/planning/UGxhbm5pbmdfNjg1OTU3

We want to create a local network (Maryland and surrounding area) of users, managers, teachers, and designers that use a wide range of Autodesk software but primarily work in Civil 3D. We want to provide a forum to be a resource for learning and knowledge sharing and to improve the use of design technology.

This is a meetup hosted by a user group a part of the Autodesk Group Network. After the meetup concludes, a recording will be shared here and you can keep the conversation going by adding a comment in the thread below.

I will post the questions from the session here for everyone.

Tom Richardson

Do you have a link to where to join the User Group on LInkedIn?

Answer
Maryland CAD User Group | Groups | LinkedIn

Priscilla Abdallah

not burst?

Answer
Thank you for the suggestion, burst worked great! I didn't think to try that. Although I did want to use my "explode" joke lol.

Amanda Havener

how did you select multiple xrefs?

Answer

I was in the xref manager and clicked the first xref on the list, held shift, and clicked the last xref on the list. This will grab all the xrefs in between the two clicks. Someone also suggested selecting the xref in model space, right-click and choose select similar, this will also select all xrefs in the file.

Tom Richardson

Could you use the filter command searching for text PK to select them for delete? The query in filter can be saved for future use.

Answer
I have not tried that, I will give that a shot.

Peter Schellin

take a look at map query, if you want to keep text, but put it on the same layer with a suffix.

Answer

Thanks for the suggestion, I will try this out.

James Grammer

On the Balto Co GIS, if you don't want the parking labels, don't select the ROAD-ANNO objects on their website.

Answer
You are right, but I only want the road names, I just didn't want all the parking labels.

James Grammer

In most instances if you will be sharing info with Maryland land surveyors, drawing units should be set to U.S. Survey Foot. That's what they currently work in.

Answer
We use Feet. I know US Survey Foot was introduced in AutoCAD in 2017, this could be a great topic for future discussion.

Dante Howard

What is the site used to download the GIS information?

Answer

https://bc-gis.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=e4f7fba2400b42c98aeb11e7a99747bb

Someone also suggested searching using the words "Open Data" followed by the name of the county.

Amanda Havener

Have you looked into using fields in your title blocks that can be managed and edited through the sheet set manager?

Answer

Yes, we use fields and I am a HUGE fan of sheet set manager. I intentionally used a clean titleblock for the purpose of the demonstration. I appreciate the suggestion though, thank you for sharing!

Tom Richardson

I recommend that you don't use "edit ref in place" on Civil 3D drawings. Editing a border is probably fine.

Answer

I agree 100%.

Michelle Hood

Why didn't you have me moderate? LOL!

Answer

I will take you up on that offer next time!

Michelle Hood

I'm fairly certain you can change the colors on the VHT outlines for those who are color blind, right?

Answer

Yup, you are correct. You can revise the colors, linetypes, and lineweights to fit your need.

Tom Layon

look at mapwspane command

Answer

Thank you for the suggestion! I will look into it. Honestly, the extent of my Map 3D knowledge is really bringing .shp files into .dwg format. Map 3D has so many tools I would love to learn more.

Peter Schellin

how often did you want to meet?

Answer

Every other month. We can always adjust as needed to fit the need.

James Grammer

I would be interested in virtual meetings (camera's on) to discuss Civil3D and it's pro's. con's and customizations.

Answer
Excellent! This is exactly the type of interaction I envision for this group. Be on the lookout for the day/time for a zoom invite on the group page.

Danny S

where are going to share the lisp

Answer

I will share them at our next meeting with a onedrive link.
