CADD Applications Development Specialist for Florida Dept. of Transportation

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is seeking a full-time Career Service appointment in the Engineering / CADD Systems Office (http://www.dot.state.fl.us/ecso/) located in Tallahassee, Florida.

 

We are seeking highly qualified candidates with considerable experience either utilizing, supporting, configuring, or developing applications for the MicroStation / GEOPAK Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) platform, or the AutoCAD Civil 3D CADD platform. 

 

The Engineering / CADD Systems Office (ECSO) serves the Florida Department of Transportation CADD users and this position will join the team of professionals who support ECSO’s mission to coordinate and manage technology providing the Department's engineering community with CADD applications, support, and training.

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:  This position assists with the development of Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) applications for the Engineering / CADD Systems Office (ECSO).  The position provides technical support to the Department’s engineering / CADD community on a statewide basis.  The position supports programming and maintenance of the ECSO software suite, including production systems integration with 3rd party applications, consulting on engineering software applications, end-user technical support and consulting on development issues.  This position will be member of the programming team, supporting CADD applications for the Department's CADD software suite.

 

40% - Responsible for providing analysis, design, programming, maintenance, documentation, and configuration of engineering graphics computers used in direct support of the core Engineering / CADD applications used by the Department for plans production.

 

30% - Responsible for providing support to the user community for the CADD Software suite, through documentation, direct communications, electronic communications, and web presence.  This includes providing technical support to other information resources staff members as well as Department CADD support personnel in general. 

 

10% - Participates in research to evaluate and recommend software acquisition to supplement or enhance the existing engineering / CADD programs and to accommodate increasing future graphics resources utilization.

 

10% - Assists with software systems deployment including the installation, and maintenance of CADD application software packages.

 

5% - Attends meetings and prepares presentations for the Department’s CADD community.

 

5% - Performs other duties as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Knowledge of the concepts, terminology, principles and analytical techniques of an engineering specialty area
  • Knowledge of the Department's CADD systems and standards
  • Skill in CADD macro programming tools
  • Skill in using engineering tools, equipment and/or instruments
  • Skill in using CADD hardware and software
  • Ability to develop specifications for software development projects
  • Ability to analyze and interpret engineering data
  • Ability to solve problems relating to engineering
  • Ability to apply engineering quantitative techniques
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments
  • Ability to communicate engineering information effectively
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to interpret FDOT CADD end user problems and offer solutions
  • Ability to effectively document and communicate CADD solutions to end users
  • Ability to write code in support of CADD applications
  • Ability to design configurations and customizations for CADD systems
  • Ability to navigate the Department's Intranet via a web browser to provide and obtain information
  • Ability to provide technical assistance and support to customers and district support personnel through the telephone and email.
