Revit - Making Buildings with the Building Maker Tools

pic18 (2).png

In Revit, there are specific tools called "The Building Maker Tools."  These tools allow you to create system families such as Walls, floors, roofs, and curtain systems when you work with mass objects.  For example, if you have an odd-shaped mass object and need a wall on its face, these tools will allow you to make them.  To use any of these tools, ensure you have created a mass family object representing the building overall shape and load it into your current project.  This will allow you to select the faces accordingly when using the appropriate command.

Building Maker Tools

- Wall By Face

- Floor By Face

- Roof By Face

- Curtain System By Face

Wall By Face:

You can use the Wall by Face command located in the Architecture Tab, Build Panel, Wall Flyout.  Once you choose it, select the type of wall you want to work with in the Type Selector.  Then, select the face of the mass you want to apply the wall to, and voila...you have a custom wall built by face.

Floor By Face:

You can use the Floor by Face command in the Architecture Tab, Build Panel, Floor Flyout.  You must create mass floors before using the Floor by Face command.  Select the mass object and within the contextual Ribbon, choose Mass Floors command to select all the Levels to make you mass floors.  Once you choose it, select the type of floor you want to work with in the Type Selector.  Then, select the mass floors you want to apply the floor type to, and voila...you have custom floors built by face.

Curtain System By Face:

You can use the Curtain System by Face command located in the Architecture Tab, Build Panel, Curtain System Command.  Once you choose it, select the type of Curtain System you want to work with in the Type Selector.  You can create a new one by duplicating an existing one and changing its Instance and Type Properties before applying it to the face of the mass.  Then, select the faces of the mass you want to apply the curtain system.  You will need to use the contextual Ribbon functions to select and create the curtain system properly.  When finished, you have a custom wall built by face.

Bonus:

You can modify your mass object within the Conceptual Mass Environment.  Re-load it into your Project.  Then, select the elements you created earlier and choose the "Update to Face" contextual Ribbon Command when needing to update your model.

Have fun with these tools!!!
