Proposals within InfraWorks are uniquely different from one another. You can easily modify one proposal, confidently knowing it will not affect the others. However, what if you want to include new elements in multiple proposals? You probably do not want to create those elements numerous times to achieve the same result, and consistency is important, so it would be great if those elements were the same from one proposal to the next. The good news is you can copy from one proposal to another. You just need to toggle a setting first.
In the image shown below, there is a gas station on the corner of the intersection, vegetation throughout, and traffic signals at the intersections.
Proposal 2 - New Elements Included
All these elements have been drawn in my Proposal 2, however, now I want some to appear in my Proposal 1. As you can see in the image below, Proposal 1 is rather barren.
Proposal 1 - New Elements to be Added
If I select the traffic signal I want to copy, grips are available to scale, rotate, and move it. Right-clicking on the selected traffic signal produces the menu as shown below. There is no option to copy.
Traffic Signal - Grips & Right-click Menu
To allow the ability to copy between proposals, go to the View Settings in the top right corner of your screen. Refer to the image below to navigate to the View Settings. The active View is Conceptual View. To toggle the settings of Conceptual View, click the icon in the bottom left of the dropdown menu, as highlighted blue in the image below.
View Settings Dropdown Menu
The View Settings Dialog Box will appear on your screen. Click the button at the top of the dialog box to change to Interaction Settings. Find Edit Mode and toggle it off, as shown in the images below.
View Settings - Edit Mode Location
View Settings - Edit Toggled OFF
Now that Edit Mode has been toggled OFF, let's revisit that traffic signal. Now when selecting the traffic signal, there are no grips displayed to scale, rotate, or move. Right-clicking on the traffic signal produces the following menu with Copy as an option. Click Copy.
Traffic Signal - Right-click Menu with Copy
Return to the Proposal dropdown menu and switch to the destination proposal. The window view should have remained in the same position, but if not, zoom to the location to paste the element. Right-click on the screen and the following menu will display. There are now options to either Paste or Paste in Place. Click Paste in Place to have the element appear in the same position as it was in the original proposal. Refer to the image below.
Proposal 1 - Paste in Place
The copied traffic signal is now part of Proposal 1, as seen in the image below.
Proposal 1 - Pasted Traffic Signal
The same process can be repeated for the Stand of Trees as demonstrated in the images below.
Proposal 2 - Copy Trees
Proposal 1 - Paste Trees
To make this process easier while working in InfraWorks, consider creating an additional View Style. Click the icon in the View Styles dropdown menu, toggle the settings you want and rename it. I have created a Copy Active View Style to quickly toggle this setting as needed.
