Thank you to everyone who has shared their thoughts and suggestions. We’ve received your feedback and have been reviewing and organizing it. Please note that some of the feedback has been consolidated when it had similar intents. There are also some comments without usernames because they were not provided, and some comments where some users shared their username while others did not; only those who shared their username have been mentioned below.
Fixed
The following issues have been addressed in previous releases. If you are still encountering these issues, please let us know. When you share feedback, it is always helpful for us to have detailed steps to reproduce or a video recording so we can follow how you experienced the issue.
- Mobile reply – text editor does not expand, making it difficult to read your whole post
- Not able to quote on mobile (@Curtis_Waguespack)
- Ability to sort by latest on “All” tab ( @kerry_w_brown, @a.laasW8M6T)
- Move “latest reply by” up (@daniel_cadext)
In an upcoming release
- Too much white space on the sides, between content sections, and on topic pages. ( @Cadguru42, @C_Haines_ENG, @CGBenner, @nbonnett-murphy, @Brock_Olly, @kacper.suchomski, @ChrisRS, @YannickEnrico, @Sean571 , @jyager, @Rory_M, @BDCollett, @karthur1, @MkEHWD, @mat_hijs, @Jeff_M, @Chad-Smith, @andrewdroth, @David_W_Koch, @m_kingdon)
-
o The next release will widen the content area so it spans more of the screen.
o We do not expect this will address all the feedback shared regarding the white space. We’re also looking at where we can reduce padding and reorganize sections.
-
- Add a button for EVENTS in the top menu under Community. In addition to the breadcrumbs, there will be a community-wide navigation that will make it easier to navigate to other sections without having to go back to the homepage.
Prioritized
The following feedback has been prioritized to be addressed. They will be addressed in upcoming engineering cycles and shared in related blog posts. Additionally, if your feedback offers a solution, we will evaluate what problem or pain point it solves and determine how to solve it based on the various ways that other community members may utilize the feature.
- Pinned posts are not visible enough (@Chad-Smith)
- Add navigation/pagination for replies to the top (@andrewdroth)
- Re-add reply numbers to refer to
- For Subcategories, make the titles of the subcategories more explicit / what is happening in each type
- Re-add "date of last reply" on the topics list (@kerry_w_brown)
- Re-add the ability to see which posts have been read since an update
- Show when posts have an attachment or link in it (@CGBenner)
- Make it easier to access bookmarks
- Improve the recommended/ related events since some boards are showing very old events (@CGBenner, @Curtis_Waguespack)
- 2 Reply buttons (@brian.strandberg, @kacper.suchomski)
- When replying to the top topic via mobile, I see 2 reply buttons. The black button ( which only appears on mobile) gives a more usable, friendlier interface for mobile.
- The 2 reply buttons exist on the desktop as well. One is on the right side and one below the post, but one opens a reply box inline, and one opens a new page.
- Set the search filter based on where you are so if you are searching from the forum board, the search defaults to only search the board.
- The purpose of the upvote is not clear ( @m_kingdon)
- Clicking on the “Back” browser button after viewing a forum topic takes you to the bottom of the forum instead of the top of the topic listing or where you left off
- “Quick view” of the user’s profile on hover is no longer displaying
Under consideration
The feedback in this section is under consideration. We are considering this feedback but have not yet prioritized it because it requires further investigation to understand the root issue and the impact it is having to you and the community at large. There are scenarios where your suggestion may be specific to the way you, or community members like you, use forums but not work as well for other community members. This doesn’t mean that we won’t address a pain point because other community members use it differently; it just means we need to understand the scale of the issue and the impact it would have. There are also scenarios where your feedback requires coordination with another team, and we can’t commit to making a change without working with them. Lastly, we’ve received conflicting feedback. For these, we are looking at how the community uses these features at scale to determine whether there is an issue or pain point that needs to be addressed or if there’s a different way we can design it based on these different scenarios.
- Oldest to Newest" sort takes too much scrolling to navigate (@Curtis_Waguespack)
- Tags
- Ability to sort search results generated by "tags”
- Remove ability to filter by “tags” in the right rail (@Brock_Olly)
- Add an "Unsolved" Tab in the activity feed (@chriscowgill7373, @C_Haines_ENG)
- Place an Events tab within each forum alongside existing tabs (All, Trends, etc.)
- Accessibility Suggestion - Text Colors for accepted solutions ( @Curtis_Waguespack, @kacper.suchomski, @hmunsell) and improve contrast of read/unread posts
- Inability to navigate back to a forum board from the bottom of a topic (@pendean, @vinodkl)
- This one is categorized in this list because the breadcrumbs were added to solve for this. The previous breadcrumbs did not function as standard breadcrumbs because the forums were integrated with Autodesk Knowledge Network and required navigation back to parts of that experience. The new breadcrumbs show the path you’ve taken so that you can easily follow the path you took to arrive at where you are. Since they are fixed at the top, when you scroll to the bottom, you can still navigate back to the forum where all the topics are displayed.
- Forum Navigation is hard to find, and tiny.
- Scrolling to view all the boards within a subcategory is cumbersome
- The section name “Discussion styles” doesn’t make sense
- Placement of the reply, report, and like buttons (@kacper.suchomski)
- The options menu and hamburger menu have similar options
- Reply and Report Buttons look too alike/simple text
- Top contributors
- Prefer “Top Solution Authors” and the ability to see by time periods ( @vinodkl, @Gabriel_Watson, @thor98_)
- Suggestions to eliminate leaderboards
- Bring them higher on the page or right rail (@matt.worland, @vinodkl)
Needs more information
The feedback in this section needs more information. If you provided a username, I’ll reach out to you directly via PM. If you did not include a username and would be open to discussing your suggestion in greater detail, please send me a PM.
- Add "Quick Paste" for code more than 50 lines: It would be helpful to see an example of this.
- Readability: Adjust line spacing after paragraphs and bullet lists. This sounds like it’s related to the white space concerns but also sounds like it’s part of the text editor so I’d like to better understand what this is referring to.
- Re-add the ability to see the number of views each topic has (@AllenJessup)
- While this is displayed on the topic page, some users disagree that these statistics are helpful (@m_kingdon)
- Your discussion group interface is completely unusable on an Android phone (@ActivistInvestor) Is this related to groups or another part of the site? A link or screenshot to the interface you’re referring to would be helpful.
Will revisit after the March release
As shared in previous articles, another release will introduce Industry Hubs and include changes to how the community is organized. In this release, some of the feedback shared may not be an issue, so we will revisit these issues after that release.
- Make language titles more distinguishable to reduce the need for extensive scrolling
- Integrate tags or tabs to select the desired language directly, similar to the Home page
Not applicable to the redesign
The feedback in this section reflects comments and suggestions related to features that have not been updated with the latest changes. While we may not have made changes to these features, I’ve noted the ones that we will further investigate after the March release.
- Text editors have not been changed. When you create a forum topic or reply, the text box that appears was not changed, and we do not plan on changing it.
- The following suggestions will be evaluated after the March release:
- Improve User Signature Editor (@NachoShaw)
- The private message interface on mobile is unusable
- Improvement: Notification Bell Size Increase (@iamcdn79)
- Time/ date stamp for posts do not show the viewer’s local time; users want to define how the time/date is displayed (@kerry_w_brown)
Again, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We have the Industry Hubs release in March and will post another update before that release so we can share what else is included in that release. As we continue to receive feedback, we’ll continue organizing into these categories and will share updates each month or as we plan releases.
Office hours will resume on March 11. If you have questions or want to clarify or discuss the feedback you’ve shared, please join us there. Scheduled office hours are posted in the Community Events. Don’t forget to RSVP so we know to expect you.
