You asked, and we listened!
We’re excited to announce the next generation of the 3D Sketch experience, which makes 3D design of building shells in Forma faster and more seamless than ever.
3D Sketch is now fully integrated in Forma, blurring the lines between the main Forma Design mode and 3D drawing.
This means that 3D Sketch now launches instantly – no more waiting for a separate environment to load!
3D Sketch graphics are also now shared with the main Design mode, eliminating the visual inconsistencies of the previous 3D Sketch offering - for example, Forma elements like Constraints are rendered as they are in Design mode, and other elements like image underlays are no longer missing.
Sketch tools themselves have also been enhanced, with improved usability, consistent graphics, and faster response times. Exiting 3D Sketch is also instant, making the entire 3D editing workflow seamless from end to end.
This integration runs deep, and the improvements we’ve made allow more capabilities now and open new doors for the future. For example, it’s now possible to edit generic Volumes created in Design mode with 3D Sketch tools, which can then be converted to Buildings by adding Floors in 3D Sketch.
As before, you can still edit imports with 3D Sketch, although the same triangle count limitations apply. Here’s a real-time demonstration of importing an OBJ, editing it with 3D Sketch, and returning to the main Design mode. Seamless!
Up next, we'll continue to leverage this deeper connection to unlock more workflows and blur the lines between Forma elements in 3D Sketch tooling.
More on that soon. For now, enjoy!
