Update on progress for reported issues

Overview

In this update for the Community Redesign, we will be providing statuses on what was detailed in February in our previous blog post, Community Redesign - Update on the feedback shared.

Before diving into the details, we want to address ongoing discussions and concerns about this project. Change can be challenging, especially when the changes made may not align with everyone's preferences. We value your feedback and have thoroughly reviewed the comments, suggestions, and concerns. However, these inputs represent only a portion of the various factors we must evaluate to make decisions about our priorities.

Our community encompasses over 15,000,000 members with diverse roles, including small business owners, engineers, and visual effects artists, and with skill levels ranging from beginner to expert. Designing and building an experience that supports such a wide array of people with unique needs and pain points is complex. Additionally, we must ensure that our community can scale and adapt to evolving technology and business landscapes.

We remain committed to iterating on the community experience using data and advanced technologies to better serve you. To achieve this, we must restructure how our community is built, designed, organized, and managed. While we would love to have a dedicated team member to respond to all comments, write blog posts more frequently, and host more office hours, we currently do not have the capacity to do so, but we’ve been making every effort to keep you informed and respond to your feedback, resources permitting.

Again, we want to ensure you are aware of upcoming changes, but we have noticed that these forms of communication sometimes create an expectation for more frequent updates and immediate fixes for every issue. While we have reviewed all feedback and comments, we will not be responding to nor addressing every issue individually. To show that we are reviewing and prioritizing issues, we have been sharing updates through these blog posts. Our typical release schedule is once a month. However, due to the scope of the Industry Hubs experience and parallel issues we are addressing, the March release has been delayed.

To prevent further delays, our team must focus on the critical path to launch. As part of this process, we sadly have to temporarily pause office hours and blog posts with feedback updates until the Industry Hubs release. The next blog post in late April will include a preview of what will be going live with this release, and the next office hours will be scheduled in May .

Updates on the feedback we prioritized

Resolved and released

The following issues were resolved in the last February release. Note: There have not been any other releases since February. We have been working on preparing the Industry Hubs release.

• Cannot go directly to latest post/last page from Topic listing

• The sorting of posts doesn't seem to be based on the latest post.

Prioritized and resolved

These will be included in the Industry Hubs release

  • Too much white space: To clarify the discussion around this topic, there are out-of-the-box templates and standards with the 3rd party platform that we build the community experience on top of. By default, the width of the main section is defined by that. We have had to customize every template to widen this content area, which has had cascading effects requiring more testing and time to adjust the other features and components.
  • Re-add reply numbers to refer to
  • Re-add "date of last reply" on the topics list
  • Show when posts have an attachment or link in it
  • Make it easier to access bookmarks
  • Improve the recommended/related events since some boards are showing outdated events
  • 2 Reply buttons • Set search filter based on where you are
  • “Quick view” of user’s profile on hover is no longer displaying
  • Search is defaulted to "All Community" instead of the current board

Prioritized but will not be in the Industry Hubs release

The following issues have been prioritized but will not be in the next release. They are prioritized in the next 1-2 releases, but that might be subject to change.

  • Pinned posts are not visible enough
  • Add navigation / pagination for replies to the top
  • For Subcategories, make the titles of the subcategories more explicit / what is happening in each type
  • Re-add ability to see which posts have been read since an update
  • Purpose of upvote is not clear
  • Clicking on the “Back” browser button after viewing a forum topic takes you to the bottom of the forum instead of the top of the topic listing or where you left off

Not reproducible

The following issues are not reproducible:

  • Pinned post scrolling ribbon thing does not show all pinned posts
  • Clicking on the number in the "Related tags" doesn't work
  • [Mobile] the Browse Files to Attach button does not work (it just does nothing when clicked)
  • [Mobile] Copy link doesn’t work: Note the copy link works when you paste it but there is no visual indication that you copied it. This is prioritized but not in the next release.

If you are still experiencing these issues, you can report the issue through the Feedback Form and include a video recording or the detailed steps you took that resulted in what you reported, so we can try to reproduce. Without this information to reproduce what you’ve experienced, it is difficult to troubleshoot and resolve.

Not a bug, as designed

The following feedback are not bugs but expected behavior

  • Clicking on the number in the "Related tags" doesn't work: From the data and reports we have, we have not observed users clicking on the number, but rather the text and button as a whole.

If you reported an issue that is not reflected on this list, we have reviewed them and decided those issues will be revisited and reprioritized after the issues listed above are resolved and released. Following the Industry Hubs release, we will resume office hours and continue sharing updates for upcoming releases through the blog. We look forward to reconnecting through future blog posts and office hours once the release is live. Thank you for being a part of this journey!
