It would be useful to have a tool to create a work area boundary within CAD and Civil 3d and likely many more software suites by Autodesk. You draw a boundary around the area within a dwg that you are focussing on, so that anything within that boundary can be edited, and anything outside is faded and untouched. That way when you do a quick select within the drawing or an erase command you focus the software on what is within the work boundary and nothing outside it gets accidentally edited.
There can be items you forget about outside where you are working and get so deep into the focus area you forget there are other items. Then later find you have affected them with tasks undertaken. This tool could prevent that user error and save time having to correct errors.
