Feature Lines are very Powerful but needs a refresch. There are a few ideas in the Civil 3D RoadMap for Feature Lines but I have not seen this. I have read that you also want to improve Feature Lines in the Future.
The idea is very basic:
Most of the times I use a FL as a corridor target (instead of a polyline) because I can add a name for the Feature Line and then I can identify it.
If we extract a corridor feature Line, the FL properties should show a symbol (WARNING) if that FL is currently used as a corridor target in another target to not to remove it accidentally.
Even in the Prospector (Feature Line Table, see the picture in the left side), it should appear a new column with a symbol if the FL is currently used as a target in another corridor Feature Line. This should be a first step. I talk in the past with Tim Yarris about considerating a way to do querys and show a table with links between C3D objects. For example, if we select a FL, it should show a list of all corridor names that are using that FL as a target.
Show all the surface names that that FL is used as a breakline...
Show all corridor names that FL is used as BaseLine.
Etc.
Etc..
C3D is powerful but we are working blind if we don´t know the links between C3D objects. (imagine that we reopen the drawing 2 month later... you don´t remember how did you do it!!..)
If we try to remove a FL it should launch a messagebox (when FL is used as a target in another corridor) about if the user really want to remove that FL.
Regards.
