XREF with COGO points does not show point marker

We've run into an issue where COGO point symbols aren't showing up when XREF'd.

Here's a screenshot showing the COGO point drawing. Point 5150 has the valve symbol shown.

Cadguru42_0-1725630460490.png

Here's the other drawing with the COGO point drawing XREF'd in and selected. Notice how the symbol is not shown?

I've double checked that every layer is thawed and on. What's going on? Is there some new variable added that affects this?

@Cadguru42 what version of C3D are you using. There was a similar question recently and I've not been able replicate this issue with a file that I have that is part of a sheet set where I'm x-ref'ing the plan into the sheet files.

I'm using C3D 2025. Luckily, for this project we're not using the survey drawing as a direct XREF in sheets, but I did need it XREF'd into a model file for the crossing utilities. I realized I was skipping over some things thinking they weren't surveyed when I realized that none of the symbols for any COGO point was showing up.

I've definately XREF'd drawings with COGO points and survey points without issue in the past, so this is a fairly new issue to me. That was our standard system for a previous employer that we used for 16 years.

I can think of a couple of things.

If the point is using a block as its symbol and either the block insertion layer or the layer the geometry is on within the block, there is going to be an issue with its displaying.  Thats my first check - thaw and turn on all layers and see if the symbol comes back.

That's odd, here's an image of my xref in a sheet file (survey basemap) and I'm even using the symbol for that your using for a water valve. I have all 2025 updates installed.SharedScreenshot.jpg

Sorry I use a darker blue for the valve symbol.  Can you post a small snippet of the file with this happening?

My first thought was to look at the layers, but everything's thawed and turned on in both drawings. And it's not just one point style. It's every single COGO point's markers do not show up when XREF'd. And the drawings are using the same scale as well.

I can't share the file, unfortunately. Just tested this morning on a hunch. Our project is using ACC. The survey file, though, is on our Egnyte folder because ACC did not support the survey database. If I just take the default OOTB template and XREF this survey drawing the symbols come through. It's only when the survey file is XREF'd into an ACC drawing that all of the marker symbols are missing.

If you can share both drawings, I can take a look at it likely this morning.

That's interesting that the OOTB method works. You are aware that 2025 now has the SDB capabilities in ACC, I would assume. Perhaps that has something to do with the this.

We don't trust Autodesk to actually get something right, especially something this new when they can't even get the SSM to work properly on ACC. We are finished with the survey portion of this project and we started it back in March before Autodesk supposedly added support for the SDB. One thing to note is that any point style marker that's using the built-in cross, and not a block, does show up. It's only styles that use a block that do not show up when XREF'd. And it's not just my workstation. This happens to another user that's using C3D 2024, so it's not just my workstation nor C3D 2025.

Did another test. Created a new drawing using the same project template. XREF'd the survey drawing and the symbols show up. Have not saved this drawing anywhere.

Cadguru42_0-1725899645161.png

I then saved the drawing, closed it, reopened it in the same C3D session and the symbol is showing up correctly in the test drawing.

Cadguru42_1-1725899976648.png

In my utility crossing drawing where I'm modeling the crossing utilities I have XREF'd this same survey drawing. It has our flattened, 2d existing base drawing XREF'd, but it has items not from the survey in it or changed, so I wanted to see what's different between the two. When I XREF this same survey drawing into this utility drawing (created using the same project template as the test) the symbols do not show up. I've highlighted the survey XREF below. Notice that where the valve is supposed to be nothing is selected/showing?

Cadguru42_2-1725900263817.png

I just added this XREF, so there's no altered layers or anything. This is a fresh XREF that I just created for this reply.

I had this occur and it turned out the layer state manager turned off the 0 layer in the top level drawing. Thawing all the XREF layers does nothing because the 0 layer is outside that filter. If all the point markers are defined under 0 layer as is common practice, that propagates into the main drawing's 0 layer rather than an XREF layer. This explains why a new drawing imports it fine.

Please mark this as the solution as no other definitive solution was provided.
