Working in two seperate files/software-windows simultaneously - not working any more!

I have always used to work in AutoCad/Civil 3D in two (or more) separate files/software-windows simultaneously, having several files open at once, allowing me to work parallell with different files. So when one file/window is working on a heavy process for example, this has previously allowed me to work in the other file/window while waiting. This gives me the chance to use my worktime more efficient, not having to just sit and wait while the software handles heavy processes.

But now suddenly this isnt possible anymore?! Now, even thought I have the software opened double - when one window is working on a process the other window also goes into "freeze", and I can't work in the other software-window while waiting anymore! This is super frustrating!!

What has happened? Does anyone know if there is anything I can do about this?
Is this a software-issue, an update-change or a license-problem?

I have a license through work, where my leader is administrating the lisences. But admin is an architect working in ArchiCad, so their knowledge on how the Autodesk-lisences work isnt expertise.

Does anyone know what might have happened here? What can I do to change this back to the way it was?
Does this have anything to do with Network-lisence vs Single User lisence?

Thank you so much in advance!

All the best, Tone

I don't believe there has been a change in the software or licensing that should affect this. A licensing issue would be noticeable at the time you run the software (it should prompt or prevent you running a second one, if that were the case). I often also run parallel with two applications when one is going to be doing some heavy lifting or time consuming task and haven't run into this issue directly.

I have noticed that the laptop I was just upgraded to for work (Bim Box) has had some difficulty with running some heavy processes. You might want to take a look at your Task Manager (Shift+Ctrl+Esc) while one is running and verify that the other isn't also running some task that is locking it up too.

Sounds like windows to me.

I am not sure C3d supports multi-thread processing so when windows takes a dump it all goes

I'm not experiencing what you are describing in 2026.  I've got two sessions open and have been hopping back and forth between the two all morning.  And when they are both working, I'm scrolling the forums, which is how I came across this post.  Are you running your software on a single screen?  I've got mine on two different monitors and the forums on a third, maybe it is a video card issue if you are experiencing problems on one monitor.

Licensing only uses more than one license if you are on separate machines, or if you are using separate software.  Unless something has changed recently, you can open as many versions of the software, and windows of that same software on a single machine, and it only uses one license. (and if it were a license issue, it would tell you, not just freeze)
