Program is locked while trying to convert 3DFaces to Surfaces. This type of action where the program freezes for hours before completing an operation is too common. I admit I'm converting 181,000 faces. But STILL....

Hi Allen,
I tried creating surface from 3D Faces using one of the tutorial files and it seems that it all works fine with 4080 3D faces. Only one acad.exe shows up in the Resource Monitor. Can you upload your drawing with 3D faces for others to try?
I tried again this morning and the process finished. I'm not sure of the time because I started it before going into a meeting. I'm trying to create an AutoCAD compatible drawing because I'm working with @john.vellek on another issue. I'll be trying to upload it to a box he set up later today.

Does this look normal to you? I selected a vertex on a polyline and had to wait a couple of minutes for the program to respond.

This does not look normal to me. Seeing that you have almost 8 GB of memory usage seems problematic to me. Not sure if it's in the drawing itself or something else. Have you tried WBLOCKing that drawing and importing into new DWT. See if that shows smaller memory footprint and if it works better.
I tried that last week along with a clean reinstall of Civil 3D. The drawing size is 144MB.

Do you have any data references and xrefs there? By any chance your drawing is bloating after each save?
No. Neither. The only way I get semi-decent performance to set to Plan with a 2D Wireframe. I've tried both rolling back and updating the Nvidia drivers and don't see much difference. Turning off Hardware Acceleration helps a little bit. But when doing animations I need to leave it on. Thanks for keeping up with this.

With hardware acceleration on set HQGEOM variable to 0 and see if that improves performance slightly. I think the drawing being that large, it will be hard to have excellent performance, especially if there are large surfaces, complex corridors, sections and all that. Do you see similar behavior with smaller files? Can you try creating surface from 3D Faces only in one drawing. You may try copying 3D faces from that drawing and import it into new blank drawing and test. That will tell you if program is problematic or your dataset. Good luck.
Thanks. I'll try that after the latest Anipath animation finishes. I don't have any complex (or any) Corridors. I do have a large Surface created from Aerial Lidar and ground based Laser Scanning. The Lidar was created from a Geotiff and I exported a grid of points from the Laser scan Point Cloud and attached the N,E,Z ASCII file to a Surface. Then pasted into the Lidar surface.

HQGEOM was already 0. I've had complex drawings lag but never to this extent. I've never used Material to anywhere near this level before. Is it normal for Materials to slow the performance way down?
