VIEWPORT BORDER GONE - CANNOT DELETE

I need help deleting a viewport.  I created a polygonal viewport.  I did some edits inside the viewport turning off stuff in just that viewport.  When I went back into paperspace my viewport became a rectangle with no boundary.  And now I cannot delete it.  It has happened 2 times.  My layer "W-VIEWPORT" is on and unthawed.  I did NOT use VPCLIP so that solution did not help.  I have done a PURGE and AUDIT.  It has happened 2x in the drawing.

Hi @ChristopherVol, enter the _qselect command and then set the proper conditions for C3D to select it for you:

Think of a characteristic you already know of that viewport. It might be a color, layer, or whatever you can identify it with. Then hit OK, and you'll have the viewport selected.

I hope this helps. Best regards!

Any chance you are using Defpoints layer? and layer zero is frozen?

No. I am on my layer “W-VIEWPORT”. Also turned everything on and unthawed everything and did ‘RE’ a couple times to make sure.

Most likely the Layer the the Polygon resides on is not your view layer and it's been frozen which would cause the VP clip to not be recognized.

I could tell something was weird about this drawing.  I have software on my computer which puts the viewports on a specific layer, it doesn't recognize your viewports, and it has one that doesn't display.

I opened the drawing in Bricscad, which IMO is better at cleaning drawings than autocad/civil 3d.  I get the message "error executing AUDIT which I have never seen in all the dirty files I have looked at.

I can select the viewports with SSX <enter> E <enter> VIEWPORT <enter><enter> and I don't see anything weird in the properties menu for those that are not displaying.

I tried recreating the layout tab, by right clicking on the layout tab and selecting "from template", no luck there.

I would select all the viewports either with QSELECT or SSX, remove the visibile viewports from the selection set, and erase/recreate the rest.

The problem is in my career we get CAD files to work with from all different companies. Many of them are inexperienced with CAD.
This was a drawing we got from someone else. I try to do "AUDIT" as much as possible to erase any possible errors it can find.

Yea, totally agree with that.  This drawing is very weird, not entirely sure what is going on with it.

Hi guys, as I mentioned in my post, by doing a quick select it is possible to select the viewport and erase it. I just downloaded the file and erased the viewport of the "Pre-Construction (24x36)" layout. (See the image, it is gone)

The selection criteria were these. (First image- before selection)

After selecting the viewports:

ecfernandez_3-1685646604851.png

After this, it is just a matter of unselecting the viewports we don't want to erase and get rid of the ones we want.

If you don't want to delete the viewport but want to see its border again, double-click on it and hit this button (_.VPMAX)

The viewport will maximize. Then hit the button (_.VPMIN, the same button but with a different command) again and you'll have the borders visible as they were before this issue occurred. (see the image)

I hope this helps.

Best regards!

Hi  cvolosy ,

Can you try to do following

  • Double-click inside the viewport to make it active.
Maximize the viewport by clicking the + sign in the top left corner.
Change back to paper space and you can now see and select the viewport.
  • M_Obradovic_0-1685698465292.png

Hope this will help.

I did that. It became visible. But when I try to delete it, it just deletes the boundary again. The viewport stays.

This did NOT work. I deletes the boundaries I was able to delete before. But I have two viewports that have NO borders that I cannot delete.

Hi  cvolosy

Please see attached video. You have 5 viewport one over others.
