Vertical Clearance for Profile Layouts

Hey, we're creating Layout Profiles with circular crest curves (length/radius) for low profile vehicles but we also want to set the max hight difference between each starting and endpoint of a crest/sag on a set length.

For example, this vehicle got a circular crest/sag curve radius of 400m and a chassis clearance of 0,30cm between main axis, which is 30m in length. So the height difference for any crest/sag shouldnt exceed 0,30cm on 30m lenght, else the bottom of the vehicle touches ground.

Is there any way to set this when creating profile layout in civil 3D 2024?

Hi @sven_guelay_95

Interesting topic.

When i had similar case i did it manually because my road length was very small with few only crests/sags.

Did you try find any tool/option in Autodesk Vehicle Tracking?

Do you want a toll to create the curve or to check the Radii/Lengths/Elevation Differences?

Hey @nkiakas , thanks for your reply.

Yes it is possible manually, however we do road design for heavy wind turbine transports in rough terrain with lots of crests/sags and low profile.

I know how to do it using Vehicle Tracking using Ground Conflict Report but thats not what we're looking for, since it only allows you to check conflicts after creating the layout profile.
But since its possible to restrict layout profile creating using set parameters (like vertical curve settings), I thought there must be a way to restrict the profile to a set difference in elevation points adjacent to crests/sags.

Im not sure what you mean by "toll to create the curve..." but our goal isnt to check elevation differences, for we can do so manually or set a band to show us. Our goal is to restrict the profile in creation. Technically, this doesnt sound too complicated to me but Im no programmer...

Hi @sven_guelay_95

I had a typing mistake. By toll i mean tool.

So looks like you need a tool to create curves under special conditions.

.NET plugin for sure could help with this.

Maybe, not sure ( i have to take a look in any node to create curve exists), Dynamo could help also
