Using ArcGIS Connector for maps with GIS REST Services

This may have been covered here before, but I wasn't able to find any specific instructions.  I'm looking to learn if it's possible to use the new ArcGIS connector to capture the map data and the feature information/polygons hosted on a  GIS REST Service and bring that data into Civil 3D.

Using the connector results in only the GIS map information coming through, as well as any shapes and polygons that I add myself in ArcGIS.  I've tried using the ArcGIS for AutoCAD extension to add the REST Service to my drawing, but it's not behaving as I would expect.  It brings in the features as a raster image, improperly scaled and not correctly georeferenced.

The REST service I'm trying to incorporate features from is public property boundary information, hosted here:  https://gis7.nsgc.gov.ns.ca/arcgis/rest/services/ISD_GIS/Property/MapServer

I want to bring these into my drawing as lines and polygons much like I can do in ArcGIS.  Any help with this workflow would be much appreciated.

I was able to get this working (Tested with Civil 3D 2022):

  • Type in the  hyperlink you have shown above

  • "Save As" and title the map

  • Share the map. Pay attention to the extent checkbox.

  • Back in Civil 3D open the built in Autodesk Connector for ArcGIS and select a region.
  • Then select My Content.

  • Check mark a map
  • select parcels
  • select "add to my design"

  • The import will begin.

Notes:

  1. The extent / zoom selection is finicky and your map will appear / disappear based on zoom depth. I think this is a glitch but it also might have something to do with the "share current map extent" option in ArcGIS online.
  2. This also works for Map 3D mode but then it comes in as a map layer and cannot be exploded.
  3. At one point, I had a poor import but that might just be if you import too large an area at one time.
  4. There appears to be a new and old viewing experience for ArcGIS online. I was using the classic mode and it seems to be possible in the new mode but the above is based on "Classic".
  5. ****Update: Did some further testing and I would definitely recommend checking the "share current map extent" box and limiting the extents. to avoid the "glitch" mentioned above****
  6. ****Update: Lastly, after you check marked the map you want and it zooms to that locations map extents, it seems you have to click the extents box noted below in order for the import to actually work. A small area shouldn't take long.
