Last week I was having some occasional Civil 3D crashes so did what we're told, look for updates. I updated to 2022.2.5 (released in August). After the update, Civil3D was crashing even more. So I wondered if there was another update. I didn't find a Civil3D update, but instead a Licensing update, so installed that and crashing stopped.
Fast-Forward to today and I've crashed 4 times before lunch.
Today I updated Windows but that didn't seem to help.
Tempting to upgrade C3D but the office is waiting for the 2nd or 3rd version of 2024
@jwilliamsZRQUC Are you by chance the only one in your office with this issue? You mentioned others in passing over there but not much else.
What triggers the crashes? Can you repeat on demand?
What's your video card?
2022 is not new in the world: was it new to your setup? Or did you have a system change (add, delete, update, downgrade, something changed)?
Sadly there is no secret stash of updates: what you found was the most current. Did the readme file indicate it solved your type of issues?
Hi Jason,
Thank you for taking the time to report the frequent crashes you've been experiencing in Civil 3D 2022. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us improve the software's stability and performance.
I've had the opportunity to review the crash reports you've submitted, and it appears that some of these issues may be related to the workflow involving switching drawings associated with different projects that have shortcut folders. To further investigate and resolve these issues, I recommend trying the following:
Update to a Later Version: If you have access to a newer version of Civil 3D, I would recommend giving it a try. Software updates often come with bug fixes and performance enhancements that may address the crash-related issues you've encountered.
Test the Same Workflow: After updating to a newer version, test the same workflow that was causing crashes in Civil 3D 2022. This will help determine if the issue has been resolved in the updated version.
Please keep us informed of your progress, and if you continue to encounter problems or have any questions, feel free to reach out. We are here to assist you in any way we can to ensure a smoother experience with Civil 3D.
Once again, thank you for your valuable feedback and for submitting the crash reports. Your input is essential in helping us improve the software.
I also have many crashing issues with C3D 2022. Last week when we had a deadline I had about 8 crashes a day just switching drawings. Sometimes C3D 2022 would crash in the background while I was looking at a browser or reading an Outlook email. I send the crash reports, but nothing ever seems to come from them. A lot of clients use ProjectWise (since it's better than anything Autodesk provides) and we keep C3D 2022 setup to use ProjectWise. I have C3D 2024 for non-ProjectWise projects, but those are few and far between.
Just know that you aren't alone in how many times C3D 2022 crashes for no apparent reason. Not much we can do about it, though.

It does indeed seem to be the case that I'm the only one seeing crashing at
the frequency I am...
That's good to know: isolated crashes (or freezes) like that have a lot to do with the individual PC or user workflows more than anything, but that also makes them harder to find a general fix for too.

...I also ran a recovery on the dwg that seemed to surround some of the
crashing, so fingers crossed that's a solution...
That is the go-to solution for every one of our users in our offices before they ask for others for help/second opinions.

...Must say I'm impressed Autodesk seems to have stepped up their support.
Seems these reports that get generated actually do go somewhere and
sometimes people look at them
Error Reports are always seen, but unless they have a concrete answer they are rarely responded to directly. In these forums @lim.wendy is a unique gem that is ever so helpful. Review her response in detail, there is a lot that was noted for you to take action on.
you can't be serious about the readme file - in no way has the readme file EVER been entirely inclusive of all fixes and non fixes - when you're having issues nobody can explain, the industry asks "have you restarted, have you updated, etc" Crashes are intermittent and no I can't troubleshoot it to one specific instance or I wouldn't be here. It's quite obvious it's coding related and from at least one other post, I'm not alone in the crashes. but thanks for the snarky replies - we're all a bit nerd techy and sarcasm comes with the territory - enjoy the 4-day work week - cheers.
btw, I'm running NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000
yes computer is 2 years old, i7-9700 @3.0Ghz, 32GB RAM, but that not the problem
running an overnight recovery on the dwg that seemed to be related to most crashes (either data refs from or open itself) seems to have helped - no crashes today, but also not "accepting as a solution" until I get another day of no crashes (Still running 2022.2.5)
only consistency I've found is having a dwg with data refs in it and then opening the source drawing along with it - that's what seems to create the occasional Fatal Error, but not always. Recovery on the source dwg seems to have helped a little but it's definitely not completely fixing the issues that started with the latest update of 2022.2.5
No Solution Yet.
Running a recovery on the base (dwg containing data refs) resulted in less crashes but there's definitely more crashing occurring than before the latest 2022 update so I am hopeful for another update or that the office will pull the trigger on 2024 soon.
C3D crashed 3 times in a 7 hour day on Friday - it's fairly consistent that I have a presentation style dwg with data refs in it open, I then open the base where the data refs come from and I get a "fatal error" but not for certain that will occur either, so just trying to get into the habit of saving before I do that. So, Not a Solution but more of a pain in the butt workaround

Not likely but you never know.
In the meantime... you can always implement a do-over on your C3D 2022 install, this time skip the offending update you see as the trigger/problem for you https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Clean-uninstall.ht...
