Hi!

I know how to take excel information for tree locations and use civil 3d to place these trees based of their lat/long on a dmg. But is there a way to take size information to create accurately sized blocks?

Any help would be dope!

It can be done through description keys; you'll need to set up your scale parameter. For example, if you have OAK 24 30 45 which would equate to an Oak Tree 24" DBH 30' Spread 45' High your scale parameter would be Parameter 1. (Going on memory could be 2). You will also need to draw the block in inches (i.e. the trunk would = 0.83') for it to scale correctly.

Note: It's been a while since I've done it that way and have resorted to a tabular format for tree data these days.

I use description keys

Create a point style for each tree size .

Its the same style with different scale so its easy to do

then setup your description as shown in the example

My data starts with am integer that represents the trunk diameter

The result looks like this

If you reverse your point code so that the tree type was before the size then you would only need one description key, and you could use a the size as a parameter to scale the symbol.
