Symbol sizes to scale

Hi friends, I have really struggled with this for years, I am completely confused, have tried numerous ways to try to figure out how to bring symbols into a drawing at the correct size at whatever scale I am in.

I first have to think that the larger number the scale is; actually the scale of the drawing is getting smaller. So I ask myself does this mean the symbol size should get bigger at a 40 scale as opposed to a 20 scale or just the opposite?

I have tried creating annotative symbols at a 1:1 scale thinking that they would come into the drawing (no matter what the scale) at the correct size. I don't think that worked if I remember correctly. So what I do is bring the symbols into the title block, overlay them on top of the title block symbols and make them the same size, or either I just eye ball the symbols and say "that looks about right", either way I am just winging it.

I feel that there should be a simple, scientific, mathematical way to think this out but I just end up more confused! I feel like there should be a permanent, simple fix to this problem that works correctly every time at any scale but I am lost.

So tomorrow I have to start a new clients drawing, he gave me an example drawing at a 30 scale; it just happens that I will be drawing at a 30 scale so this time it wont be a problem I can just use his symbols (most of the circle symbols measure 3 feet diameter) but next drawing may be an 40 or 100 scale and I will be lost again.

I would love to be able to make blocks out of his symbols (or anyone's symbols) save them in a folder in a way that I can utilize them later at any scale and know exactly how to bring them in at the appropriate size. This is killing me.

I am thinking that dividing 3 feet by the 30 scale gives 0.1. So I am going to try to make a 0.1 size symbol, and when I insert them type 30 into the insert box scale and see if that works or create an annotative 0.1 symbol and see if it will come in correctly at the 30 scale. But it makes me wonder if I do that, when I draw in a 50 scale and type 50 into the insert scale will they come in HUGE? Or will the annotative symbol come in HUGE at an 100 scale? Or will the fact that the bigger number scale is actually a smaller scale will the symbols will come in smaller? Or should I actually be scaling the symbols down to a smaller size the bigger the number of the scale? I have labored with this for countless hours and still have not come to a resolution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK, I believe I have finally worked this out. I have written a block of 1 of his symbols at a 1:1 scale and it seems to insert correctly at any scale. If I got it, it was really sooooo simple!

Eric,

Draw a circle that equals 1 2 or 3 doesn't matter. Place said circle in a point style ask it to be .1 in height and it will.

1 2 3 are units...........

I don't have any experience with point styles maybe I should look into that. There are definitely things I still need to learn in cad. Do I just go to settings, points and create a new style for symbols?

Sounds like you're using annotative blocks for the first time. Check out this video as the author goes over some very important topics and does a great job of explaining how it works.

I wasn't done with this post, I have not had time to look at the offered information but someone solved it as a solution for me.
