I am trying to convert closed polylines to polygons using MAPPOLYLINETOPOLYGON .

However, the selected polylines get filtered out and no polygons are created.

If anyone has suggestions that would be helpful

They could be 3D polylines that you'll need to 'flatten'  before using the mappolylinetopolygon command.

after using the flatten command, the polylines still didn't convert to polygons.

Another cause might be if the polyline crosses or overlaps itself.

Note: The BO command gives the option to make a region by selecting inside a closed area, similar to selecting an internal pick point for hatching.

The polylines are closed and don't cross or overlap themselves. Although they are in many cases abutting each other. I'm hoping that is not a factor

Why do you need polygons?

I am inserting them in an Arc map feature class of polygons and need compatibility of features
I could be wrong or unaware of an method of adding them to the feature class as polylines through a transformation process ( I'm imagining)

When my GIS people need acad lines I just wblock out polylines. They just import them. Then draw a shape over the autocad lines.

I would try MAPEXPORT to export the polylines. When asked for the filetype, you can go straight to an ESRI shapefile, then pick the "polygon" option, then go to the last tab as indicated in the pic and select "Treat closed polylines as polygons".

Note also, that you could mapexport the lines, then mapimport that same exported file (taking note of your selection on that 3rd tab in each case) which will convert all your polylines to polygons within Civil3d.

Finally, given that some of your polylines abut each other - are they all really 'closed'? worth checking by selecting them all and verifying this in the properties window, and changing if necessary.
