Superinmposed Profile - Incomplete

Hi ,

I am using Civil 3D 2013,

I  created a profile view and channel and top  of kerb profiles.

I offset the horizontal alignment from the channel back by 125mm and created a profile along it.

I want to superimpose the top of kerb profile into the profile along the offset alignment. However only some of the profile is displayed ?

Can anyone advise as to why this is happening  please. The cyan profile is the one i wish to superimpose.

Can you attach an image of what your alignments look like in plan view?

It's tough to see what's what in that image. Usually your problem is that the superimpose alignment is shorter than the main alignment, thus you don't see all of the superimposed profile.

The superimposed alignment is an offset from the alignment right next to it , so while yes it may be fractionally shorter i would have though i would see the majority of it apart from say teh last 200mm or so ? I have now had a similar prob with another profile view and superimposed profile , however i noticed that if i deleted some of teh profiles elements and replaced by inserting VIP's the missing superimposed section shows up ?

Not an answer to your problem, but a possible workaround. Try creating a feature line from your offset alignment / profile. And then project that into the view.

I understand the part where you offset the channel alignment; so yes, both the lengths (of original alignment and offset alignment) are necessarily close. But what about the Kerb (which you are trying to super impose)? Is the Kerb length exactly the same as the offset alignment length? If the kerb alignment is shorter than the offset alignment or longer, then it wont match up with the offset alignment profile.

when you say kerb length, i take it you mean the top of kerb profile i created ?

I am kind of doing what you say but in reverse.

I create a channel alignment and a surface profile along it of the existing ground, then create profiles for proposed channel and top of kerb.

I then offset the channel alignment and create another surface profile along it. Then i superimpose the top of kerb profile in it. This then lets me create a feature line along the offset alignment and link it to the top of kerb profile, i then add that into the proposed surface. The Surface then shows a simple but representation of top of kerb and channel which i can modify dynamically buy editing the profiles. If that makes sense.

Roger, can you post a picture with only your 2 alignments? (just alignments) The original and the offseted alignment. Make sure to isolate them and post the picture because I wasn't able to understand form the last pic, too much going on. I am pretty sure that it has something to do with the lengths

Screen shot of the two alignments, the one on the right is the original channel alignment. The one on the left is the offset alignment to represent the rear top of kerb.

I am starting to think its is more to do with how you edit a profile, as I have had a similar prob with another profile view and superimposed profile. But when I deleted some of the elements on the profile and redrew them the missing parts in the superimposed profile then appeared. However admittedly this could be due to where Vip intersect etc but i am not curretnly fully understanding that aspect of how civils works or doesnt as the case may be !

Also I don't suppose it could be something as simple as a very small gap in the profile ? I can't see why you can't have a profile with gaps in it, but again i have noticed if when i deleted an element any elements after it seemed not to show up in the superimposed profile.

Roger, yes the alignments look pretty close. It may have to do something with theprofile. I have never heard this issue with super-imposed profiles. Can you post the drawing?

Hi Ranjit,

I think i may have stumbled on a solution for this particular case.

I found that in each instance where the superimposed profile had a missing section I zoomed right in and found a very small gap in the profile. Once i moved the grips to link the it to the next element the superimposed profile appeared whole in the profile view.  I take your point tho about the different length may case an issue but it dos'nt appear to be the case in this instance.
